Well, she's in the ground :)! Yesterday, during late afternoon shade, I dug deep and wide to give the best chance. The garden bed's top 6 inches is run-of-the mill garden soil and then heavy clay begins - solid clay at least 1.5 ft down. I didn't dig deeper but know it continues thanks to last summer's experience. I'm a little concerned that the clay floor and wall that runs around the hole will cause issues but, hopefully, I've amended the area adequately. In the bottom, I put about 8 inches of triple mix (peat, compost, manure), gently roughed the roots, set the bush on top of a pyramid pile, sprinkled some bonemeal around, filled in, firmed and watered. Watered a bit more this morning, too, just in case. Feel free to tell me where I goofed ;-). Now, I'm on the hunt for clematis (maybe Piilu)...and probably one more rose...The bug has bitten :). I have seedlings on the go but just heard they'll not bloom til next year. Ah, well. Off-topic: Others I picked up on the same trip- nemesia Berries n Cream, heliotrope, stock, dianthus Arctic Fire and coreopsis Moonbeam. The coreopsis will go near some salvia May Night at the side of the house...I haven't decided about the others - containers or beds, time will tell. The nemesia smalls out of this world!!! When the weather is cool and if shaded from Western sun then the most purple rose I grow is THE PRINCE. Blooms start out crimson red but by the time they fully open and mature the color is a rich imperial purple. My REINE DES VIOLETTES has magenta-pink blooms but they always finish up a soft true violet. Acidic soil rich in iron tends to bring out the best color transformation. Try adding chelated iron as a fertilizer supplement. Among the once blooming Old Garden Roses there is no rose more purple than CARDINAL DE RICHELIEU. How purple? Think grape cool aid purple. I recently saw WILD BLUE YONDER and it was a stunning purple. The ruffled petals and open flower form is very beautiful. Kinda like ANGEL FACE but on a healthier more vigorous plant. RHAPSODY IN BLUE is very purple but the flowers do fade to subdued grayish lavender. Most roses in the mauve color class start out with strong crimson/magenta tones then "fade" to purple and lavender. The sole exceptions are the silvery lavender roses found among the Hybrid Teas. These roses start and finish the same color - a washed out lavender. Some are positively gray. They are also horribly inbreed, weak and disease prone. Lavender/mauve/purple is not a natural color for roses. The color actually comes from the color of the cell vacuoles and not from the "red" plant pigment cyanin found in roses.

You can use any photo sharing website like photo bucket, shutterfly, etc. You can create albums for each event and then password protect the albums. For something public, like the regatta, you wouldn't need to password protect it if you don't want to, but you could for personal things, like events at your children's school. Then you can send an email to the class, include the link and the password. I've done this before. We rent out our house for a local "tourist" event so people like to see pictures of the house in advance. I have a password protected album that I will send them a link to so that they can only see those photos. With a site like shutterfly.com (there are many but I'm drawing a blank right now!), the people you are sharing the album with can upload any pictures they want to their own account and have them printed right from the website and sent to them.
