Minor good news - new faucet in my future (maybe)

So Hubby was doing dishes this weekend (he hasn't done them in a while due to his being consumed by other responsibilities) and he got reminded of just how non-functional the stupid thing is. This led to conversations and the decision that replacing the infernal contraption is a definite possibility.

Now we need to find a reasonably priced faucet that we both like, that we can actually see and play with before purchasing and try to sell the old one. No time line on this at all.

So what I need:

a pull-down that is not a huge monstrosity

brushed stainless or satin nickel finish

Has a more classic/Victorian look

works well

spray part is easy to handle

Has a realistic reach/arc.

Fits our very, very limited budget

Help me start dreaming.

(For reference, we currently have the Danze Opulence pull-down.)

Wow, I'm surprised cause that's one of the more popular models too. We went with the Moen Aberdeen, I liked the straight nozzel on the end and love how it functions. The only draw back and this would be the case with any sprayer for us, is that it's so crowded under our sink that there isn't enough room to have the weight on the hose and it just keeps getting caught up in the plumbing. Without the weight, sometimes the faucet hose won't go in all the way very easily. I should have taken that into consideration, if I had, I would have probably gotten a Delta because theirs have magnets where the sprayer retracts.

Can I totally hijack this post for a minute? Prisjar, were you the one who wrote about a very sick friend in Dubai, on The Kitchen Table? If so, how is he? If not, please forgive me for writing this here!

Each rib has 4 or 5 parts. I am going to split the bows in to two parts, take off the purlins and take them down (not in that order). I hope it will go fast. If I have a helper or two, it sure would help. I am guessing with two cordless drills, a cordless impact driver and several ladders, it will be down in no time. At my house I need to tear down one of my old tunnels, that I wasn't using this winter, pull all the posts, move some dirt around to make a more level pad (at least have it all sloping the same rate), and square up and add string lines to start driving ground posts. I bought this exact sink with original hardware and legs for my bathroom. Does anyone have any tips on the best way to mount it? It came with two legs (no towel bars) and no mounting bracket. There are no slits in the back, only underneath. I see these beauties installed in bathrooms all over the internet, but no word on how people mount them. Any tips are appreciated! Btw I also asked the nice people over at deabath and am waiting to hear back. But figured maybe you would might know. Thanks!

Ladyvixen, we were in our 30's in 1985 when we bought our 1898 house. Looking back, we were very young. Neither my husband nor I had any skills or knowledge at all about how to work on houses. All we knew was that our house was nearly intact, was very inexpensive, and that we loved it. I had always wanted an old house, and had been buying things such as light fixtures, hardware, etc., for years before we bought the house. We bought the house "as is". Fortunately we were both employed and had no children. We had to hire almost everything done, and it needed a lot of work. We did not take a vacation for years. Then came a time of around a year or two that my husband was either unemployed or underemployed. During that time, the house just didn't get worked on. We didn't care that we lived in an unfinished house; in fact, I thought it was beautiful from day one. We have a corner in the dining room where all the little balls the cats play with end up, but you don't notice the slope otherwise. It has taken us over 25 years, and we are almost finished, but still have some work to do. We should have it finished by now, but are in our 60's now and do like to take a vacation now and then. Also we sometimes didn't have work done even when we had the money, because we were tired of the mess of having things torn up. We lived with a practically non-existent kitchen until about 2004. I said all along that this house was my dream house. People would look at me funny, but it was and still is my dream house. Don't let others talk you out of your dream. Make the decision based on what you want and what you think you can handle. If you think you can live with an unfinished house for years, go for it. If you have to have everything finished and perfect, you shouldn't buy an old house. I have the ablility to not even see the unfinished stuff until we get ready to do something about it. I meant this to be an encouragement to you, but reading back on it, maybe this will scare you because it has taken us so long. Don't let that scare you--you can do it faster than we did! Hi Trin, I will certainly keep you, and your friend and her family in my thoughts any prayers. This very thing happened to a very close friend. He actually had a seizure in my front yard - I just held him in my arms and it was over just as quickly as it started. The lung cancer was just a very small piece of it. He had surgery and all seemed to be OK. Shortly thereafter, the brain tumor returned - it was a very aggressive form of cancer that he could not overcome. It was almost exactly a year after the initial seizure. He was such a strong person - physically, mentally and emotionally. It was such a shock to see that happen. I can imagine how you must feel. Ooh, I'll have to look for that Aberdeen. The lines are quite similar. The big difference is that the spout angles like it should. On the Danze Opulence the spout at its best is straight down, in general actually angles backwards. It cuases major splashing issues. I think that most people who have the Danze Opulence have the bridge or other styles, not the pull-down.

pbrisjar, they have it at one of the box stores and the great indoors. I got it at faucet direct for 318.00. I was swapping out a CRAPPY Price Pfitzer, that was only a couple of years old because it was Crap. It also has a separate lever for the water control, which I preferred cause that's what I was already used to. I noticed your current faucet is a single piece so I'm not sure your granite will have enough holes to accomodate it. But atleast if you like the style, it will give you something to use as a guide.

I got two great faucets off of Ebay. If you have the time to wait and keep checking for what you want, it can be very cost effective.

I have the Delta Allora and love it. The spray/stream button is a hard plastic that toggles easily. It's not very victorian, but i have it in brushed nickel and love it.

I had the Aberdeen in my last kitchen and loved it . . . but we sold the house a mere 18 months after the kitchen was done so I don't have any long term reviews!
