This is a mural of a train painted on the wall around the corner from a well known restaurant I frequent: Whistlestop Cafe/Irondale Cafe. Not my picture, but I did have one of Nita when her family came to visit me, ever so long ago. It's very rare that you eat there without hearing and seeing trains pass by across the street from the cafe. People with kids and grandkids go across the across the street and sit on the benches just to watch the trains go by. I've done it with my grandson :o)

Audrey, Consider this - in October when it looks dead and ugly, dig up the bulb. Store it in a cool and dark spot. Replant in March (including a bit of bone meal to encourage the root growth). I do that with my cannas. Those who grow gladiolus around here do the same.

Amelanchier has many names, depending where you live. Here in PA most people know it as shadblow serviceberry or just shadblow. I did make a pie from the berries the first year that the trees bore. Apparently it took the birds awhile to realize how good they were. My reason for planting the 6 trees in the first place was for the birds, so I let them have all they want. The berries are very seedy, more so than elderberries, so making jam or jelly would mean more work than I want to do. Littlemonkey, that jam recipe does sound good though. Mine are shrubby trees that sucker profusely. Dh keeps after the suckers to keep them from taking over the yard. Here are 3 of them in bloom in mid April. They like moisture and are planted here with a River Birch.

We are in a battle with the squirrels and chipmunks over the bird feeders. Those squirrels can leap and climb!!

lol..watching the one feeder today..had what looked like 3 baby squirrels? (smaller almost the size of chipmonks) a bunny and bluejays....

last evening a small hawk had landed in the drive by the other feeder...the jays/squirrels were going crazy! but the minute it took off, it was dead silence! it was soooo funny...

omg I love love love Peony! I wish we could smell through the pc because I know those have to smelly heavenly. I had one when I lived in Oklahoma but it never bloomed, I know it can take years for them to bloom, it is probably blooming like crazy for the new owners. I am going to try to get one going here.
Thanks for sharing that beauty.
