Adding insulation to existing insulation

We are having the siding on our house replaced this summer, and are considering adding new blown in insulation to our exterior walls. We have an old house, (balloon style framing) so much of the old insulation has settled.

I believe the insulation is dated to the 1970s (when vinyl siding was installed). Our old vinyl and shake cladding will be removed, thus giving us easy access if we wanted to 'top off' the current insulation.

Is having 2 different insulations (with 2 different R values) problematic? We live in Norfolk, VA where moisture and humidity may be an issue.
