I really dislike wooden cabinetry (looks dated too quickly). I also really don't like brown and beige and gravitate towards the cool watery colour tones (with wood for warmth). I would hardly describe my choices as "schizophrenic" (or any design choice for that matter-it is demeaning to people who suffer with that illness and who are probably already ostracized from general society). Zoe ~ Thanks for including those pictures. I'd love to see how your white trim will look. Marcolo ~ I guess modern rustic does describe what I'm going for? FWIW, we are not building a log cabin, it's a 6000 sq foot house framed with logs (so all of our walls are drywall).

I don't know how large of an accent area you are speaking of, but mother of pearl tile comes in almost pure white to beiges and tan, to hues of blue. My bathroom remodel is about to get underway. It is all ordered and demo date set. It's mostly Torreon Travertine, My sinks, tub, baseboards and doors are white. I am adding a mother of pearl tiny brick laid tile to the face of my built in shower bench. It is white with tan. I bought samples from Tilebar.com I chose mini brick oyster white. You can read the reviews and see photos of the customers who used the product. We ordered several color samples of the pearl tile and chose this one for our project. It runs $17.99 a sf sheet. Yes, if you paint the wall (the paneling) the same colors, top and bottom and paint the chair rail that color also, it will make it all joint together and disappear sotaspeak. Then paint the doors the white color as your other white in-house. You can paint the kick molding (shoe molding) or you can leave it the same color as your (dentil work, etc) molding at the top. In fact, I think I would paint the room the same color, yellow, green, gold, whatever, and then paint the doors like the other white trim in your house. Leave the shoe and quarter-round molding in the stain color and leave the stain at the top. I have seen this done before and it looks good. Then you have the white colors which connect to your foyer, your main color and only the color of the molding as a third color. Your room will look united and larger, more open. Another trick is to line paneling with cheap wallpaper and paint over it. They used to sell what is called wallpaper lining for that specific purpose, to hide the "creases/dents" in your paneling but most people do not mind them (I don't). But, if you do, you can spackle or grout them, whatever it is called, or you can just buy cheap-as-dirt wallpaper to put over the paneling and paint that.

beautiful flooring i'd leave the beam and the trim to me different greys and browns are a very natural combo. like, one of the most natural ones (and I played with it quite a bit in our new place-keeping both greys and browns in a very warm realm though since it's my preference, and the house's too) forest in fall: browns and greys some northern coast especially in winter: browns and greys deserts-lots of browns and greys(well depending on a desert of course..I saw many and they all are so so different. Some look even playful like Joshua Tree; some look cosmic like Death Valley; if you go from Jerusalem down past the Dead Sea etc-nah; not playful. Looks like a place we'll eventually end up..)) I don't know; to me, it's just beautiful. I d go for a variation though..add some whites, creams, darks..blues/greens if you wish..also very natural: water, leaves, you name it-they're there..if there's no water and leaves the sky is always there, right? I'd go for softer versions with touches of stronger contrast..much like Roara's beautiful pics..add a lot of different textures-each material reflects light differently, thus the color reads differently. You have this softly different palette just by using different materials. You want to go coastal-add wicker, grasses, linen..some metallics but earthy ones-iron can be really realy cool? ceramics. white? amazing. cream? awesome. blue? great. browns, greys? very cool. you can really have fun with ceramics. plants of course. here you have your everything-color, texture, oxygen lol..pure joy too furniture-mix and match some. should be of similar mood..but say some pices can be painted some left stained look for side tables/stools/ottomans that are textured, like maybe woven..or upholstered. bring a lot of fabrics. with time, nobody can put everything together at once unless tons of money and designer, or it's a pity he did that lol. rugs, throws..tea towels. you name it. lights, art. it will be a very pretty home
