We were recently chandelier shopping (haven't found "the one" yet), and several places informed me that the formula for sizing is to take the width of your table and subtract 10 inches, so that would mean that for correct balance, you should get a 32" diameter chandelier. I don't know if this formula is any more valid than the others that were offered, just thought I'd share what I heard (from more than one source). As for your style of room and the light fixture, I think mixing things up is a great idea, as long as a sense of scale and purpose is maintained (you probably wouldn't want an industrial-type fixture in a traditional DR, but there are talented people who could probably make anything work). I think that "french country" is too specific a name for something that would look lovely in a traditional room. As for the PB chandelier, I think that it just might be too small for your table (as I agree that it is in the PB pic that someone posted). If you love it, go for it, but maybe there are similar ones that come in various sizes? We found a few we loved, but so far, most of them are WAAAY too expensive (I love the chandeliers from Fine Art Lamps; one is $11,000. and that is just not even close to our budget!). We are going to start the search again, now that the holidays are over.

Hi Stephanie- The rule of thumb is that the dining room chandelier should be hung 30 - 34 inches over the dining room table in a room with an 8 foot ceiling. If the room is taller than 8 feet, than raise the chandelier an additional 3 inches for every foot of ceiling height. So if we pick an average of 32" for an 8' ceiling, for your 10' ceiling, we add an additional 6" and say your chandelier should be hung 38 inches above the table, you can work with the range of 36 - 40 inches above the table. In addition, the diameter should be 12" narrower than the diameter of the table (2/3 - 3/4 of the table's width) and 48" from the room's walls so people don't bump their heads on it when they get up from the table or have unflattering light cast on them. The diameter of your table is 42" so subtracting 12" from that is 30". You can work with the range of 28" - 32." If it's not over a table, the diameter of the chandelier would be the sum of the room's length plus width but in inches, so a 10' x 12' foot room (including a foyer) would take a chandelier with the diameter of 22." The chandelier's height would be the arithmetic product of your ceiling height x 2.5 - 3. An eight foot ceiling height would have a chandelier height of 20-24." If the room is less than 10 feet high, the chandelier should be less than 27' tall. The chandelier should be hung a good 6.5 feet from the floor. If you have rather tall people in your family or 10 feet ceilings, hang it at 7 feet from the floor. At the entryway to provide sufficient light you need 200-400 watts.

These are all diverse but stunning and have an open feel but the BIG size keeps them balanced......consult with a designer for proper height to hang....one rule is bottom of light is 60-66 inches from floor then go up three inches for each extra foot in height to ceiling.....but double check that too..... The PB Lucca chandelier is a knock off of the Currey & Co. Saxon chandelier. The Saxon is larger but both have the wispy arms. The measurements on both state the length and width as the Same which would make them round chandeliers. 49.75” for the LucCa would put it well past the 38” depth of your table. HOWEVER it might be possible that the arms on the chandelier can be moved/swivelled to create a more oval or oblong shape with 3 arms on each end rather than around. I don’t recall if that is the case on the Lucca or not. Since you’ve ordered it and you like it , it might be worth a try to see if that is the case. Hopefully you live close enough to a PB to be able to return it To the store if it doesn’t work. I highly doubt you will get any information from customer service on it. Especially this time of year . Many of them will be temp extra hire for holiday overflow.
