Please show me your corner prep sink?
Comments (19)Hey Lavender -- every time I scroll down this thread I give a little internal smile seeing that sink. Thanks for it. I think I'm not going to opt for a round sink, but I would love to have that if I were going to! Rhome -- yeah I had been thinking about the Stages sink, you're right. But I think it's more of a prep sink and cleanup sink rolled into one. If you can have just one sink (and fit it) it would seem perfect. But I have space for a separate, large even prep sink, and space as well for a huge cleanup sink. So I decided not to go for it I think. The smaller stages I thought about for the island, but I don't think I need or want to devote the limited island space to a reef like that. And at the cleanup sink space I'd rather have more sink and less sidebar. So while I love the idea of the sink, I am thinking it specializes more than I need. Numbersjunkie -- thanks for the picture. That shape sink looks absolutely perfect there. I notice the angle of your cabinets is greater than 90-degrees though, more like 100 or so; it's quite a different setup and use of space than what I'm contemplating... not to say it's not great or really helpful to see, just that the problems I'm worrying about might not be addressed by your experience. Can you tell me about your cabinets? They are just beautiful. I love the grain of the wood. Thanks all....See MoreShow me your upmounted farmhouse sinks
Comments (37)Check out my blog. I'm remodeling my kitchen and bathroom, and my new kitchen sink is a Rohl Shaw's Original porcelain farmhouse sink. I never considered installing it any way other than upmounted when I started designing my kitchen 6 years prior to actually beginning the remodel. I think an undermounted sink looks too modern for a vintage-style kitchen, but that's just my opinion. My new countertop is glazed porcelain tile. Although it does involve a sizeable monetary investment, these sinks are very solid and durable. I don't anticipate any problems regarding its being upmounted. Comments (6)I do not have one, but I've wanted one! I cannot answer all your questions, but just a couple. I think the choice of double or single bowl depends a lot on the size of the sink. If you are going to go with the 30" size, then single bowl would be better - a double bowl sink in a 30" size may mean that neither bowl is big enough to soak roasting pans, cookie sheets, etc. If you go to a 33" or 36" sink, then the choice is personal preference and your cooking/cleaning style. I myself have a single bowl sink and would never go back to a double, but there are just as many people who would only have a double bowl sink. What have you used and liked or disliked in the past? The advantages of stainless apron front over the traditional fireclay apron front sink are: less expensive, easier to install (fireclay can have uneven dimensions and therefore be harder to scribe the countertops around it), lighter so easier to install, will not chip, and you won't need a drain flange for a disposal (fireclay is thick so in order to install a disposal you would need to buy a longer drain flange). Disadvantages are: the look is not traditional the way fireclay is, and stainless shows water spots and scratches (the scratches develop into a patina over time, so I wouldn't worry about that). Regarding faucets, there are SO many choices. I would make sure that you get a sprayer faucet so that you can easily clean into all the corners. I myself prefer a faucet with an integrated sprayer, rather than a side sprayer. You get better water pressure with an integrated sprayer, and a side sprayer means you have to hold onto the handle for the spray to stay on. Pay attention to the reach of the faucet - that dimension is available on all the brands' websites. You don't want the reach to be too short so that you have to reach far into the sink to grab it. I will link below to a thread with 100+ posts showing faucets, and you can see if any appeal to you. There was an interesting thread that I will link regarding SS apron front sinks, and whether to get a curved or straight front. It has some nice photos, and people also posted the names of their sinks, so I think it will be of use to you. I will link it below. As to brands, I have read on this forum that people really like their Kraus sinks and their Ticor SS stainless sinks; both are heavier 16 gauge. I think Ticor also offers stainless apron front sink with "zero radius" corners, which I would stay away from - those zero radius corners tend to collect gunk. Ticor also offer sinks with "tight radius" corners that will have a very slight curve, which would be easier. A nice kitchen with a SS apron front sink is Hobokenkitchen's. Comments (12)I have one, and the belt buckle thing is a non-issue. The edge of the sink is a bit below my waist and I am only 5 ft tall. Anyone taller won't have any problems. Check the hight of your belt buckle against your current counter, and remember the the edge of the sink is lower than that. It is undermounted, so figure the sink will only be up to bottom of your counter edge. I do get water drips down the front of the apron almost every time I use the sink. I must be a slob! A quick wipe with a dishtowel takes care of it. My family is less likely to clean up the drips as they happen, so at the end of the day I often see numerous streaks down the front of the sink. Then I just wipe a little harder with a damp microfiber dish cloth and it looks pretty good. If company is coming, I'll use a dab of Bar keepers Friend to make it pristine. I don't find it a chore - just like wiping up things that drip or splash on the counter. Here are a few pics. The first pic shows the sink in context. The second pic is a close up of the inside (showing my sponge holder). I did not wipe down the sink before taking the picture, so it looks dirty and you see lots of water spots. That is what SS does. If that bothers you, you're better off with something else. I have a cream colored silgranite prep sink which NEVER shows anything (in the foreground)....See Moreneedsometips08
