Granite counter top
Comments (6)Following up with jeffinmontery, there is a company where I live that has the granite tiles and accessory pieces. I have a Formica countertop and asked about using the granite tiles. The real issue is roughing up the existing surface so it will accept the mastic to hold down the tiles. It would also require removing the sink and any build in appliances such as a countertop burner unit so the tiles fit under in these areas. You will also need to be able to cut the tiles to fit properly around the sink and any built-ins. Now, we have priced having our countertops replaced with full sheets of granite. $2,500 more or less. Using the granite tiles, probably $250 plus the cost of mastic and grout so maybe $300 and the place I mentioned has a nice selection of colors. Good luck....See MoreSupport for overhang on granite counter top.
Comments (38)Need advice please. have island 10ft long island x 4ft 2" (50inches)wide. overhang will be 12 inches down the entire 10ft length. have 24"d base cabinets plus another 12"d set of base cabinets back to back. (36 inches of base cabinets that granite will sit on). question is how many support posts will be needed down the 10ft length of overhang ?(14inch overhang) Will one support post on each end be sufficient or do I need 3? can't add metal supports into top of cabinets, not enough space between the cabinet doors and top of cabinets. no room for corbels. support posts are the only option. would like one on each end vs adding one in middle. help!...See MoreGranite counter top different color
Comments (2)I had a friend who had a piece of her granite "enhanced" to try to match a much darker piece that was next to it. It helped darken it a little bit, but it still didn't match. Comments (25)lo_yost: I've done your job: It's a lot more work than just cutting the engineered stone for $300.00. Figure five times that plus the cost of the Pete's Sink Mount kit ($300.00) and the cost of the sink. Engineered stone cuts more easily than natural stone. Either way, the guy cutting the estone had better be able to patch when he bisects an old sink clip penetration: You can't be afraid to tap off the cabinet front; there is no other way to get the sink in because the bowl is deeper than the cabinet rail. After the front is pulled the sink is set in place but forward enough to get the front back on. When the front is on, the sink apron is pushed to the cabinet front. Hot melt glue the front to the cabinet sides just like they did at the factory. Silicone the flange, tighten the Pete's which raises the sink into final position, wipe off the silicone (match the top, not the sink) and you're done. Good luck....See Moreislanddevil
