Granite counter top different color

We had new granite counter tops installed and one seam you cannot see and the other seam is very noticable. We bought 3 slabs for the tops and then went back and asked if we had enough for a full back splash. The owner said we might have and would try. We did tell him we would do a alternate back splash if there was not enough or purchase 4 different serial slabs. His solution is to cut the seam open and put in a piece of lighter stone and then there would be 2 seams. Also he said the counter could crack by the sink and the existing seam would be wider. The other solution would be to "enhance" the stone by removing the sealer with acid and darking the stone on the side that is lighter. Has any one heard of this? We would appritiate your opinion.
