Solid Wood Entry Doors

I don't know if this is the right forum to post this in, so if its not I apologize.

I am looking for a double set of 8' solid wood entry doors. I want a solid door with no windows. I want something really nice, maybe slightly ornate. My budget is up to $8k for the doors. Does anyone know any manufactures I should look at or any good websites? Everything I have found googling really isn't what I am looking for. It seems that doors with fancy glass are the trend with most manufactures.

We have been looking into replacing our entry door with a new solid wood one, also, and the prices are staggering. We looked into IWP, and the price would be about $12,000! Simpson would be a lot cheaper, but the doors come unfinished, so you need someone who can put a furniture grade finish on it. If anyone else has any ideas, I would love to hear them, as well!

Simpson is in my opinion the best "off the shelf wood door" available. Jeldwen is a pretty good door it was better when Morgan owned them but they were dumbed down a little in my opinion when they were purchased by Jeldwen. As far as the Aurora F/G door this if I am not mistaken is the IWP doors which were at the time before Jeldwen purchased them shaky at best in my honest opinion and I have seen no evidence in any of the products Jeldwen produces that they are higher quality than under the prior manufacturers.

Remove the wooden stops on the inside or outside or both and pull the old pane out. Don't worry about breaking it. The new will go in much easier than the old one came out.

I looked at a similar (in appearance) Thermatru (Fiber Classic) which was $1300 custom stained. A similar Larson Storm Door was $300. Install was $400. I figured approx $500 to change shiny brass standard hardware on storm door to nickel and hardware for entry door along with tax would bring it to $2500. Even Therma tru's top of the line doors (Classic Craft?) were not this high. What's multi point locks?

I would hesitate about eto doors. I bought interior mahogany doors from them and am not thrilled about the quality. I purchased exterior mahogany doors from two different manufacturers and the difference in quality from ETO is quite apparent. The ETO doors don't take a stain nicely at all. I don't know where you are located; I am in Central Fla. and found a great place locally. Sometimes if you call a millwork shop or kitchen cabinet shop, they can direct you to someone.

We purchased two mohagony patio doors from eto and the stain/finish we used looks awesome. They are solid mohagony with no veneers cut from new growth brazilian mohagony leaving little footprint on the forest as all is harvested in a manner to maintain, even better the land they own and collect their species from. Their millwork/joinery is top notch and theircustomer service is greatas well. Highly recommend!

After much frustration and boggling prices with the major manufacturers, we ended up going with a local custom door place. Awesome - no compromising, and the price was right what we budgeted (not double, as the manufacturers wanted).
Don't assume that local custom builders are more expensive - the folks on the kitchens forum will tell you that they found great deals using custom cabinet builders vice the big names.

I too vote into looking at custom made doors. Here in Louisiana where the architecture reflects a mix of acadian, spanish, west indies, country french, and creole most of the homes here have custom made doors and many have custom made windows. There are several in this area who specialize in just that. I would definately look into finding someone in your area that could build them from a drawing of what you want or a picture in a magazine or such.
