Fiberglass Garage Door and Entry Door
Comments (1)Might be a little late for you, but... We bought our front entry door from Pella. Lots of optios for customizing. I am about to order another door for the entrance to the house, from the garage. It is also Pella, with the same grain and stain color. Just different lite option. Here is our front door. Here is the door I am ordering. http://www.pella.com/doors/explore-door-styles/features-and-options.aspx?PCode=FEDGHL&PType=door#/glasscollections/ Hope that helps...See MoreExterior front door: wood or fiberglass
Comments (8)Check out as many options as you can. We are looking for an exterior door for our kitchen remodel. Since it goes to the back yard and deck we want a full lite door with shades between the glass. Not an easy thing to find. Of course we checked Pella-big bucks. For us, there are actually two different options-exterior door with full lite or single french style patio door. The more I look, the more options I come up with. Check lumber yards, window and door stores and the big box stores. We are also planning to have the exterior trim clad in aluminum so that we don't have the maintainance of wood with a fiberglass door. From what I have heard, it is probably worth the extra charge to have the door factory finished as well, especially if it is fiberglass with a wood look. Haven't ordered anything yet but I think we are getting close to making a decision....See MoreConsidering a Wood Front Entry Door
Comments (7)I made a 42" wide mahogany 4-panel front entry door for my home several years ago. I used Cetol Door& Window. It is covered and it faces northeast so it only sees some direct sun until around noon. Even though it's not taxed in my installation, Cetol has pretty strong UV protection. One of the advantages of Cetol D&W is that to renew it you clean, dry, then recoat. There's no need for sanding or to take it back down to bare wood, although I'll probably do a very light scuff sanding. My door has been installed for five years now, climate is New England. I thought I'd have to give it a renewal coat around year three, but it still looks fine going into its fifth winter. As to physical wear and durability, I also have a mahogany threshold on the door, also finished with D&W. No damage at all to the wood or to the finish....See MoreWood or fiberglass entry door?
Comments (19)Millworkman - Not sure - we are looking to replace a metal entry door which was installed prior to us purchasing the 1912 Craftsman style home and investigating between wood or fiberglass. West facing but enough porch overhang to more than quailfy for standard wood door warranties. Would be a slab only as we want to preserve the existing leaded glass transom as well as the single sidelight. Doors4home.com has a wide selection, but no idea on quality. Buying local would be great, but the few custom shops we've visited won't sell just a slab....See Morechibimimi
