Update on DH's Surgery

Surgery went very well.....blockage thought to be 80 percent turned out to be 90 percent and there were no problems during or after surgery.

However, he has been extremely nauseated all day and his breathing was very depressed due to the morphine in the recovery room.

So.....although his oxygen levels are great, every time he tries to sleep he quits breathing and the alarm goes off and he wakes up and breathes.

They are going to use a C-Pap type devise during the night so he can sleep and he will get some nausea medication to help.

I think with a good nights sleep and the passage of time will help a lot.

He will need a sleep study test soon so.

Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers.

Will update tomorrow afternoon or evening but it is time for this tired body to go to bed.

bless your heart! what long day for you...i'm not very good coming out of anathesia...but don't recall morphine when i had my hyst...have heard those c-pap devises are quite effective...get a goodnight's sleep and eat a good breakfast before leaving the house in the am..don't need you getting tired out when they release dh...

Luvs, my DDIL is absolutely the best. I am so lucky Jason married her. By the way, hope your DH had a nice birthday. My oldest son turned 44 yesterday. (shaking my head over this, hard to believe). Princess Mimi, with a husband and 5 sons, I think you should be the QUEEN. Bless your heart! Thank you again, Everyone, for all the prayers and good thoughts. And the offers of "running partners", LOL. I'm sure the men with white coats and nets would love a challenge. Tho I couldn't outrun a turtle these days. DH finally felt pretty good today and hopefully the worst is over. He has appt Friday with Urologist, but the antibiotics and anti-inflams apparently worked great and the back pain is almost gone. hugs, Karen

Zeffy, I'm so glad Robyn is feeling better - one day soon she'll realize how much better life is without this man (if you can call him a 'man')and be truly happy again. Now we just need you well! I loved our conversation yesterday; when DH came home I told him we'd talked and he agreed, we need you next door. No summer heat, seldom snow...we'd just have to figure out something for your roses to make them happy in cool coastal weather. Be sure to let us know how your next appointment turns out - everyone here is praying for you. Kathy, I hope you are mending too - what a winter this has been. Do you realize you are leaving a lot to our imaginations by not telling us how you managed to sprain both ankles :) I'm picturing bungee jumping myself...

Both DH and I have had MOHS surgeries in the past few years, we are in our 60's. It is usually recommended for the face. It's great if you have a plastic surgeon lined up in case it's larger than anticipated. Mine was a tiny spot above upper lip, basal cell. I wish I had gone with the fluoricel cream(sp) as I ended up with a huge hole requiring skin grafting, stiches etc. Later on sympathizing with several other patients, who underwent the same procedure, we all felt this particular civilian, dermatology group pressured us to undergo the MOHS, because we had good insurance, and they were more concerned with profits. (I had mentioned to the dermatologist, that my husband had been prescribed cream by the military MD, for the basal cell, cancers on his face, the doctor's response was that the military used the cheapest methods available, and that if I didn't get the MOHS asap the cancer would continue growing at a rapid pace). The military doctors discovered a squamous cell on DH's earlobe about a year later. He was in and out of the hospital for a MOHS within a couple of hours. Granted the ear lobe is different than upper lip but his MOHS barely shows any scar unlike mine. As for the fluoricel cream, DH has been prescribed that many times over the years for his face and body. Yes it's uncomfortable, and for a couple of weeks unsightly but it does the same thing as MOHS without cutting chunks of flesh out and having to reconstruct! I would be very cautious about the dermatologist, the dermatology practice, and whether the skin cancer is basal or squamous cell, also the size/location and if you decide to go ahead with MOHS, make sure the reconstruction surgery is performed by a board certified, facial plastic surgeon who has a lot of experience and comes highly recommended!

Roy is home! He did well during the night without the assistance of any breathing devices. His oxygen levels were excellent and the nausea has gone except for getting a little car sick on the way home from the hospital.....about 30 miles.
A sleep study will be done some time soon but the feeling is the apnea was caused from the morphine post operatively.
