Aww...they're beautiful! Thank you for giving them a new loving home!

Oh, my goodness -- both are exquisite and you are an angel to take them into your home.

They are so beautiful! How's it going? Do they get along? Have they adjusted to their new lives?

What beauties! Congratulations on your new roommates!

It bothers me that people think pets are so disposable. Holidays come and they get the kid a kitten, puppy, rabbit, duck or whatever and two weeks later think "Oh this is more work that I thought, let's get rid of it." I can't deal with irresponsible people.

But at least there are humane societies and the like to help find homes, and good people who will check a humane society rather than going to the pet plants.

Best of luck to you and your new friends. Thanks for giving a good home to some needy felines.

Tkaye, another bless you and thank you for adopting these beautiful cats. To me, animals are a life long commitment and worth every moment, day, week, month, year you can share with them.

How very lucky Alfie and Bailey are to be a part of your life.

Good for you! They're gorgeous. They will adapt quickly and will love you instantly! All of my cats have come from the Humane Society.

Like Cynic said, people think pets are disposable. Every summer there are lots of cats running loose and left behind when the university kids head out of the city.

It also hits the news periodically where people are caught throwing a bag of kittens out a vehicle's window. The last time it happened, the driver was in a Navigator. That really got people upset; that they can afford a 60K vehicle, but can't afford to take the unwanted kittens to the Humane Society, or more important get their pet fixed.

Wow, very pretty. Firepoints are the most docile cats. We have one and he'll be 19 in a couple of months. We also have his daughter who is 16. :c)

How gorgeous they are!! I'll bet they didn't stay long at the shelter!

Years ago my daughter found a kitten in a horse barn that must have been half Siamese and half black & white. He had blue eyes, a fawn colored back, and black & white markings. Morgan turned out to be one of our most memorable cats. A wonderful boy.

You'll have so much fun with your new kitties!

Alfie and Bailey have made themselves right at home. Alfie is the sweetest, most affectionate cat I've ever known - he craves attention. Bailey hasn't been feeling all that great. Her tail was amputated the day she came home with us. She had an injured tail when she arrived at the shelter, and it had become infected. Her tail is about 5 inches long now. She has not been super happy, but I'm sure she will come around.

Bailey was in the shelter for 19 days and Alfie for 6 weeks. Like other people have expressed, I just don't understand the "throw away pet" syndrome. Once we get a pet, it is loved and cared for until it breathes its last breath. Our last cats were 18 and 19 and they died within 6 weeks of each other. Losing them was so devastating to us that it has taken over a year to even consider new ones. But I think we were "chosen" by a couple of great kitties, who will enrich our lives for years, I hope.

Beautiful longhairs! A shame someone threw them away. Thanks for giving them a good home!

They are beautiful and I am so glad they have a home with you! Do you know any of their background? Their ages?

I agree, pets, regardless of the type, are a commitment that should not be taken lightly. Geez.

WOW! So glad you took them in!!! Beautiful!!!

Aren't you lucky to have two new babies to love at once! They are both very pretty.

Sue

Aren't shelter pets the greatest? Congratulations on the additions to your family.

Lynn_d, both were strays, the shelter guesses that Alfie is around 2-3 years and Bailey is around 8 years. No clue as to what happened to Bailey's tail. Bailey is declawed (front only) - I've never had a declawed cat and I feel so sorry for her. I'm used to cats who use their claws like little hands and poor Bailey can't do that. They had been spayed/neutered upon arrival at the shelter, and both appear to have been housecats (I'm sure Bailey was). So many unanswered questions...

Both are beautiful!

Like Cynic said, people think pets are disposable. Every summer there are lots of cats running loose and left behind when the university kids head out of the city. I noticed that more than half (I'd guess about 75%) of the university area rentals in my area allow pets. Don't the landlords know that the kids will want pets, but not always be able to afford their care or be able to take the animals to their next place?

tkaye - it could be that the owner of the cats died or was placed in a nursing home.

You are a doll for adopting these beautiful shelter kitties. I had a flamepoint (adopted too) and his name was Bailey. He was at my side until the day he passed at 17. He always wanted to sit close and sleep close, which I loved by the way. ~LOL~ Your Bailey reminds me of a very special kitty we used to have named "Boots". He was so loving and sweet. I know your Bailey will come around. Since I've been without a furry member for about 3 years now I am now opening my heart to finding another "forever kitty". I just retired 11 months ago and my life could use a furry family member to love.

Thanks for sharing your story.

Don't feel sorry for Bailey not having front claws. Indoor cats don't need them. I have 3 shelter kitties and they were front declawed when they were spayed at the shelter. My girls have so much fun chasing each other and I just have to laugh when one slaps the other with a soft paw.

don't worry about the tail...while on vacation one year, one of our kitties "broke" his tail...we think he may have gotten caught in the cat door, we had the neighbor use...anyway, thomas lived to the old age of 19 and did ok with his shortie tail...

such expensive cats...i'm shocked they were let go like that...but pet "toys" are the first thing people dump it seems...

Beautiful kitties. Thank you for adopting and for adopting adult kitties and not kittens. Seems like everyone always goes for the kittens.

Keep an eye on Bailey in case he has gotten an infection from the surgery. If he stops eating, call the vet.

Beautiful furry friends.

My cat was a stray when she showed up at my friend's house 14-15 years ago. Her landlady didn't allow pets and she called me to see if I would take her. I didn't have a cat at that time, so I brought her home and she is a perfect pet.

She had been spayed and front declawed so I knew she had had a good home at some time. Having no front claws has not been a problem for her. She still "scratches" on anything that is handy, and of course that leaves no scratch marks. . When she is on my lap she reaches up and pats my face with her white paws, and sometime likes to pull my glasses off!

Bailey will be fine without claws. Even if Artie irritates her she will give him a soft swat and maybe a hiss, and that will end it.

I choose to believe there was good reason for them being taken to the Humane Society, just like there was a good reason why my Lottie turned up at my friend's house.

Aww, they are beautiful!! And good for you, giving older kitties a loving home. I agree about the disposable mentality, it's awful. Poor animals.

They are so lucky to have you come into their lives!

As already said, don't feel too badly for Bailey, my 3 are declawed in front also, they do just fine. And two of them still use their 'hands', one does not but I'm not sure it would matter to the Dude...he's his own guy!

They are gorgeous, and lucky too!

As others have said, they don't miss their front claws at all.
Bud loves heights, and he spends a lot of time on top of my dresser mirror ledge, hanging over the edge looking down.
(Also has been seen on top of the frig and on top of my
6 1/2' tall bookcase. My 3 are often boxing with one another, harmlessly.

And they look right at home, too! Here's to a lot of little "sandpaper" kisses!

You are so sweet to have adopted these fur babies. It must be a nice feeling for them to have a forever home at last.

Trin

It's a throwaway society anymore. These cats are darling. Good luck with them.
