Tub Set - Do we need to keep water in the tub?

Hi all,

We're doing an additon to our home. The plumber came last week to set the tub. It's a jetted tub (standard size).

They filled it with water and I was told it will prevent it from being damaged. The sewer pipe will probably not be connected for another week or two.

Does the water need to stay in there? I don't think it has been inspected yet, however, I am worried that we will have a 'permanent ring' around the tub once it is drained. There is some dirt and saw in the water now but I am conncerned with the acrylic finish.

Any advice to soothe our minds!

There are other protective measures to use besides water,if that is the reason for filling. Did they spray foam down before they set the tub? The water would be used to weigh the tub down until the foam sets up. We weighted ours down with kegs of nails, and just to be on the safe side, left them there over night, but foam sets up quickly. Look to see if yours was foamed, and if that's the case, im willing to bet that is the reason for the water, to act as a weight.
I wouldn't want the water to set for that length of time,but maybe there is a solution you can add to prevent any staining/ringing.Call your plumber and get their take on it.Maybe it's a standard practice in your area that works, but i've never heard of using water for tub protection.

Hello I'm new to the site. I have been given a hot tub and i am trying to figure out how to turn it into a fish pond It cracked over winter so I'm just going to seal it.. It works ... So can I use the jets and it has a little built in waterfall ???I know the jets are powerful so I would have to find a way to weaken them.... Any ideas.... Drainage is important, and you know that. I would use a water shield as an outer barrier. 2" poly isocyanulate inside that against 4" cinder/concrete block. I used 1/2" radiant tubing inside that and former the inside with mortar. These were mud bath tubs at a spa. 30yrs later they are still going. I am not sure what you would want to use for an internal finish. It would be nice to have a smooth finish. Seems it wouldn't matter in a mud tub, but would in a bathtub. Also, I guess it being outside you will need a cover as well as a cap for the walls.

We hired a GC to remodel our kitchen, powder, laundry and two baths. His workers do the plumbing, electrical, drywall and tile work, he doesn't sub it out, so that is a cost savings. We talked about the vanity this morning and he said the tile on the side would go on thinset, not the full-on thick mortar like the floor or the wall (it doesn't have to "float"). My problem is we were originally going to put the 4" backsplash where the vanity and tub meet but now might have to do a full tile piece due to the overall tile design. The granite countertop has been cut already, not installed though, and I'm not convinced the tile could fit in the lip between the granite and side of the vanity. Plus, different stone tile sizes have different thicknesses, I will have to make sure it fits underneath. You're right, there are a lot of little things to think of.

I would tile to the ceiling but was just in a similar situation and did not. The ceiling in my bathroom was not even and I did not want to take a chance on seeing an uneven line next to my last row of tile. I actually have my bull nose piece just above the window. I used bull nose in my window jambs but now would have preferred not to. Steve

They kept water in our Jacuzzi tub for a few days to make sure there were no leaks in the connections or the jet bubble areas(if so, the water would have drained out. It was clean water and didn't leave a ring. I've bathed several muddy kids since and they didn't leave a ring either--a little bubble bath water helps.
