I like your cabinets too! In fact I chose similar cabinets for my laundry room. I went with a leathered granite called Jungle green. If you have a sample of your cabinet, you could take it along to a store to look through quartz or granite slabs to see if any of those appealed to you.

Oh that IS pretty! Funny thing green must compliment these cabinets as when I bought the house 12 years ago the countertops were green but DARK and laminate. So I replaced them back before I knew anything about granite, etc. So 12 years later here I sit again wanting to replace. Would you say there is black flecks in there? do you think it pulls pink out? Looks really pretty in your picture!!!

I was thrilled when I found this granite. I had no clue when I went to the fabricator to look at slabs. There are no black flecks, but there are brown and creme undertones. It does have movement, but the leathering seems to tone that down. In person, I don't see my cabinets as pink. They are a stained maple, it wasn't called pickled, but it looks very similar. The current prevalent trend seems to be away from this look and towards painted cabinets, which I almost went with, but I love seeing the beauty of the grains! I really like your cabinetry and these painted/wood trends seem to come and go.

I love your cabinets and would not change them. What are you thinking of colorwise for counters? Isn't it curious that you chose green before? There must be something to that. In my case, after I chose this slab, I realized it was the same greenish tones I was drawn to in the slate flooring I had in my kitchen before my reno!

We changed our floor out to a creamy travertine, so I really liked the cream streaks in this granite.

Thanks for the reply. I always seethose design shows that say if cabinets are light countertops should be dark and vice versa. Hard for me to come to terms with that as I like the cream/natural/tan look but that can really pull pink up...I am leaning more towards quartz b/c the color I see will be the color I get vs. ordering and it being close to what you see, etc. I have put this project off for 3 years b/c I get going and get easily discouraged! I just wish there was a ceasarstone or quartz that would be PERFECT and I could just order it and be done....Why so hard I ask????? Thanks agin!

In our last house, we had these color cabs and there was a seafoam laminate counter which did not look bad with them (although, to be honest, I really did not like the color of the cabs, nor the same color in our current house, pre-reno). I'd stick with the green family for the counters if you truly love the cabs. If not, then wait to spend money on the counters when you have cabs that are more than "ok" to you. Putting an expensive counter on cabs you don't love would be a mistake IMHO.

It's going to be tricky to find a light quartz that doesn't clash with the cabinets because of the undertone of the wood. That's probably what's so stressful for you.

Dianalo has a good point about expensive countertops and being sure you love your cabinets. I say this because it sounds like you have 2 "competing" desires...light counters and keeping the cabinets. You come to a point where you have to decide which you want more. It may take even more years if you want to do both in order to find something that might work (or might not!)

Since your cabinets are in good shape, have you considered painting them? A nice pale cream would let you keep that tone that appeals to you and make it much easier to choose whatever light colored quartz appealed to you.

My parents have your cabinets. They have blue pearl granite counters and it looks great. Go to a granite yard and look to what appeals to you. Post a picture when you are done. Good Luck!

What colors do you like?

You said newly painted green walls. Are you thinking
something with a green hue in the stone?
Do you like brown, gray, red, blue, cream, ivory, beige?
There are 1000s of colors of different granites and each
can have a slightly different look depending on the lighting
in the room and how mother nature made the stone.

Do you like a simple pattern, solid, wavy, trickles of
various colors, plain, wild, exotic???

Have you checked out FKB (Finished Kitchens Blog)?
There are some great granites on the site and you can
see what others have done.

How much do you want to spend? An ubatuba or verde peacock
might be cheaper than a Typhoon Bordeaux.

Since you want to avoid peach or pink some would say go with
gray, others say blue or even green. It is really tricky
becasue sometimes a green can make the peach tones pop
BUT it ends up looking stunning. Especially of the green
has a true yellow hue to the base of the color. Other
times a blue can make the orange in the wood powerful.
The fact you painted your walls a green means that you
found a color that you like with the cabs. Dark almost
black greens in the stone might work for your new couter.

in color tone. And this granite is more gray but has
pretty movement it is called Royal cream.

Hi, My kitchen cabinets were pickled, green paint on walls and backsplash,Basalt Slate(formica). I since have painted the cabinets white, changed the paint color on the walls and added a backsplash. I kept the counters because it is not in the budget to change them out right now. Anyway here is a pic to give you a idea on how well the darker grayish/black counters go with the pickled. Keep in mind mine were starting to get that pinkish/peachy look to them and i just couldn't stand it anymore! Good Luck

You guys are GREAT! EPaine thank you for that pic of your countertops. I personally feel they really look pink with the gray countertops....that would be too pink looking for me. I will say I REALLY REALLY LIKE my cabinets and believe me I am a picky person but I do like them! ::) I plan on moving in the next 5 years so I would like to invest in a nicer countertop for my enjoyment as well as the next person as well and for resale. TRANSLATION: 4k is my budget! My square feet are about 51. Your green paint is near identical to mine!

Boxerpups: THANK YOU!!!! Great pics and agreat visuals to help. I can rule out black and gray at this point and probably blue. I don't like TOO much of a statement as I like them resale friendly (remember five years here!)....green has potential but I was hoping for a more neutral color. Sort of like my CURRENT countertops besides being laminate. Too much movement would have me thinking it looked busy. I am more simplistic that way....

When you go look at countertops take a cabinet door with you and a sample of your wall color.

I feel your pain our cabinets are pickled too...
