Seniors--are you bored? Long

Am posting here instead of Retirement because more active.

Seniors or anyone what do you do to keep busy.

I collect stamps, do some scrap booking, travel a little, less now due to DH's health issues, sort out stuff, including boxes of cooking recipes, legal stuff, what to keep or not, go to the local cafe for coffee, Dr's apts, casino, have a church office, computer, move furniture, then go to chiropractor and ???

What to you do in your spare time--forgot play with great grand kids.

Marie, I retired on Feb. 14th of this year, and I need to go back to work so I can rest! My day consists of: walking the dog, first thing every morning. He gets walked a minimum of 3 times a day. Then I clean my 17-yr. old stepson's pig sty. Then, I do laundry three times a week.

Then I sweep the kitchen and scrub it a couple of times a week. I always have dishes to do at least once a day. I started taking painting classes, and paint every day for about 3 hours. I cook dinner.

I have LOTS of house plants and tropicals to tend to. I have a yard that is ALWAYS needing something done to it.

If I get bored or lonely, and can't find anything I want to do, I go to the thrift store and look around and visit my friends there.

I have an elderly friend in a nursing home that I visit a couple of times a month. Of course, I spend a chunk of time on the computer, keeping up with my cyber friends - PHEW!!!

It seems there are not enough hours in the day!

My DH and I both do Meals on Wheels...We started, just delivering, now I'm in the kitchen on Mondays, and we also deliver that day and Tuesday and Friday, I'm in the office...
I have lunch with 2 girls friends almost every week, I also play cards with 3 other gals every couple of weeks.
My DH helps with a local bingo every Thursday afternoon...
I'm the wedding coordinator for our church.
We both love to read and I quilt, cross stitch and crochet....
We volunteer with a local cat rescue organization.
We help with the local food bank...
And we have a big yard and garden that needs taken care of....
I sometimes, clean, do laundry and even cook...
Like the previous poster, there are not enough hours in the day!

He is in violation of federal law for sure. A neighbor who had considerable acreage started a mail-order sausage business - he also had a store in town. The FDA inspections and rules are very strict, his facilities were inspected and he had to make some alteration to satisfy the FDA, among other requirements: his facility could not be used for any other purpose, he had to make an office, including toilet facilities, available the the FDA inspector, who never showed up once, all the rules were essentially the regulations for large producers. In addition of course, his store was under regulation from the local health department. It was a solo operation, his spouse helped at times, no other employees. I don't now what the local rules are for him, but he definitely is violating Federal regulations big time

Oh, Ann ... I feel for you! What a nice gesture for you to invite this woman along, and then she has to go and pretty much spoil it for you. I'm so sorry! And unfortunately, yep - I know all about bores (or are they boors?), as I was married to one for 15+ years. My ex talked constantly -- he just didn't seem to possess an internal "off button" that would make him realize that enough was enough. I can't tell you how many social situations we were in, where he embarrassed me half to death. Countless times I'd kick him under a restaurant table when we were dining out with others, and I saw that oh-so-familiar glazed look come into their eyes as he continued droning on and on and on about things that were going on in his life. He had his own business, and he talked in depth about his work. Really technical stuff that nobody cared about. Once when he and I took a vacation with the rest of my family, we were all relaxing in the hot springs in this beautiful mountain resort area, gazing out at the stars and soaking up the ambience, and he would not "STFU." That's when someone (I forget who, exactly) in my family said, "Hey - shut yer stinkin' trap!" -- in a joking (but firm) manner. Well, that saying just kinda stuck, and I often used it with him after that, to let him know when he'd said more than enough. I guess some people are just wired that way. I really do try to be conscious about being that kind of annoying individual, to the point where at times I think I'm a little obsessive over worrying that I come across that way. Especially in the forums, I notice how many "I" statements I make, and dang ... it's a lot. Of course, when you're face-to-face with someone, that's different and demands a much greater "give and take." That's where I really make an effort not to become "that" person, because I don't know many people who can stand to be around "that" person for any length of time. Poor Ann. You undoubtedly feel like you need another vacation already. :-/

I can totally relate, gwanny! I have been having alot of computer issues lately, too and mine gave up Sunday night. I had to actually go to the bank to pay my bills, it was quite a shock! (LOL - it wasn't that bad but certainly felt weird). Got a temporary new windows and a temporary internet connection set up until we can figure out what the problem is. I, too had ebay stuff ending so was really stressing about that. In the end, all was well, my stuff all sold, bills are paid and I only had to go to the library once... Suzan J

Congrats on your new home! The typical advice to place something interesting at the end of the hall does not apply here, so you need to add interest to the floor and ceiling instead. I’d use either two rugs as shown in previous photo, or a single runner. A hortizontal pattern or weave would help to visually widen the space. Replace the ceiling lights with something you love – maybe even a light that throws a pattern of light up onto the ceiling. You might consider painting the ceiling (or ceiling plus walls at a height above the door frame) a different color, to alter the perceived dimensions of the hall. If you describe your overall style preferences for your home, people may make more specific suggestions for lighting, or for the entry. Btw, does the entry relate to this hall?

I'm another "not enough hours in the day"person.We have gardens,mostly flowers,and today GS came over and we planted what i called a "Whatever" garden.I was cleaning out one of my garden cabinets,and decided we would open a bunch of packs of seed,some old,some not so old,mix them up,plant them and see what we get.He was all excited to do that.

I also sew,quilt,cross stitch,clean house and chase dust bunnies around,and whatever else needs doing.

DH and i go to lunch or dinner a couple times a month with friends,and he and his friend go to the movies about every other week.Me i'm not a movie buff,besides i always have to take an afghan with me when and if i go as it's always too cold for me in the theatres.

Have thought about delivering for meals on wheels,but with the price of gas ,don't think i can afford it.
