Can you successfully paint a Pella or Andersen storm door?
Comments (6)That's a good point paintguy... and gracie. I actually just came across a photo of a red door behind a white, full view storm (looks like a Pella maybe), all in a white door unit (i.e., white side lites, lintel, frame, etc.) which is exactly what we have ... and it looks quite decent. The storm ends up looking like part of the trim from a distance and the red of the door -- assuming we choose a rich red -- should still pack the visual punch we're looking for. (The house is a soft gray with charcoal shutters otherwise, and we wanted to introduce some color.) And paintguy's point -- about the use of the door and applying a layer of paint to an otherwise maintenance-free finish -- makes a lot of sense. I think I was overly concerned that framing the door with the storm would reduce the amount of visible color (the red) from the door by too much -- but it really doesn't. So instead of focusing on trying to change the storm color, I think we'll focus on finding the one with the slimmest frame to maximize the amount of red door visible through it, and just getting it in white. Thanks so much to you both!...See MoreFront door questions - to storm or not to storm
Comments (27)Wow, schoolhouse - I wish I knew there were different glass options for the Anderson doors. I wonder now what I have. I paid about $400 for the door through National Lumber. I think I've decided to put the storm door on the front. I really appreciate everyones opinion on this, and all the good ideas and things to consider. I agree oopsie, it's so inviting to walk by someone's house who has the front door open (with the storm closed). My dog will definitely be happy. Once it's installed, I'll post another picture. I'm still waiting for the Baldwin hardware to come in, I don't know what the holdup is. As far as the potted plants - seems there are very few mums left; I may have missed the window. Pumpkins will have to suffice for now. Thanks again!...See MoreAndersen E or A Series French doors & sidelights
Comments (1)Both are solid. Usually comes down more to a function of the look of the products and what the client wants to be honest. Both will work just fine in this climate if installed properly....See MoreLooking to renovate my front porch (fiberglass door, storm door)
Comments (5)We have a storm door with a full pane of glass. It allows you to see our lovely door, but lack of a crossbar in the Middle means fingerprints unless you are super careful to just touch the frame. When the screen is in, lack if a crossbar in the middle means you risk stretching or tearing the screen. Also, we have these plastic things that hold the screen or storm in. You can see manufacturer videos about how easy it is to switch, but the plastic has no pliabilty so it's such a miserable job, we often leave the storm in all year. We haven't put the screen in yet, despite tempsin the 90s a week or so ago. So, chech how easy it is to swap screen and storm and in person, not just on a video....See MoreUser
