It's a little complicated, but basically, Tuesday, she critiqued a song before it had been sung. She swore Jason had sung 2 songs already (he'd only sang one). And she was extremely confused, acting super irrationally (even for her).

The only thing I can think of was on Tuesday night..when she was telling Jason that both of his songs were not very good....When actually he had only sang one of them...She was confused.

What I heard happened is that the judges hear the contestants earlier in the day perform both of their songs, so the night of the show isn't the first time they've heard them sing the songs they've selected. It was at the last minute that the judges were told that they were changing the way they typically critique the contestants and they were supposed to write down their comments after each contestant performed their first song and hurridly give the contestants their opinion. Paula was obviously rattled and thought Jason had sung twice. I've really felt sorry for her at all the things that have been said about her after the show Tuesday. I know I personally could not sit on national television and have a major change thrown at me at the last minute and not get rattled. I wish people would give her a break.

I also don't get why they had to rush through Tuesday's show yet last night they took time to show a stupid Coke cup and a preview to a new dance show.

At the end of the Tuesday shows and during the Wednesday shows, we see recaps of the Tuesday performances. But, the recaps are actually excerpts that were filmed during rehearsals. They are not from the performances we, the audience, sees on Tuesday night. As it were, the judges can also see those rehearsals.

The format of Tuesday's show was a little different than previous weeks. The contestants sang two songs each. Instead of the judges doing their critiques after each song, they were asked to hold off until after each contestant sang both of their songs. However, after each sang their first song, they were all on stage and Ryan asked the judges for some quick remarks (still holding off the main critiques until after the second song). Paula got confused, thinking they had already sang their second song and began talking to Jason about both his songs. She was reading from written notes, which tells us she saw the rehearsals and had already prepared her critiques. The problem, as others have explained, was Jason and all the other contestants had only sang their first song at that point.

I feel sorry for Paula Abdul. She seems like a genuinely nice person. Everyone always suspects she on drugs or alcohol, but I wonder if she doesn't have some sort of mental illness. The American Idol people have been quick to stick up for her.
