oak stair winder tread

I'm having my carpeted stairs replaced with oak treads. I have a 90 degree turn made up of 2 oddly shaped triangular steps. The installer states that I must use oak flooring on these steps, as expansion and contraction of the treads would be a problem. Is that the usual procedure? If the steps aren't standard, can winder treads be cut to fit these steps? It seems that the stairs would look odd with a combination of solid oak treads and oak flooring.

Thanks, Ann
