Wainscot / Beadboard Painting Question

Okay, I thought I had it figured out, but now not sure.

We just gave our kitchen a facelift, granite, sink, appliances, faucet, stripped wallpaper, paint, ect, ect.

Now working on the dining room. My PLAN was to put wainscotting up and paint it the same color we painted the kitchen and paint the upper walls a lighter shade (we already have the color). Then paint the trim and chair rail the same as the kitchen.

From my kitchen you can see into the dining room, office and living room. My thinking was to do the two tone in the dining room and foyer so I could introduce the lighter paint for my office and living room. I wanted these rooms to have some kind of blend.

All the wainscot I see is painted white. Is painting it a color a no-no? Anyone have any pictures of what I'm trying to achieve?
