Wall pantry with sliding cabinet doors anyone?

Does anyone have photo of wall pantry cabinets with sliding doors? can anyone think of any drawbacks to sliding door vs standard cabinet door?

We are building a pantry against a 10'wall and considering sliding doors since there is a bit of a walkway in front of it.

my future pantry has sliding doors. that'll be changed. I don't want sliding doors. I want to be able to open the doors and see / access the whole pantry at one time if needed. it's about 4' wide.

drawback? you can only access part of the pantry at a time, so it limits you.

here's a pic - sorry it's so dirty. the place has been empty for a few yrs.

love the message niche idea...now I want one too... I am one of those "use every inch" types so I think putting stuff in between studs is great--otherwise think of all the wasted space!! If you don't fry, etc. maybe it isn't a concern, but I just wanted to say I have a narrow shelf behind my cooktop now, pretty high up, with a few doodads and jars on it, and it is DISGUSTING. I reached for something the other day and it had the nastiest film on it. TO clean it I would have to dump out all the spices in the bottle and wash it. So I just put it back, LOL...anyway, even if there's not grease there will be steam, which will attract dust and make a film. So if you do want a niche plan on it being purely decorative, and on washing the stuf in it periodically. BTW what is OOAK?

Anyone heard of the "Slide and Hide" oven door?

I first saw these ovens while watching The Great British Baking Show. I love them, really wish they were available in the US. It's so tough on your back if you have a very heavy cast iron pot with lid, or anything bulky and heavy that has to be lifted from our traditional ovens. Maybe letters to Bosch???

Here's ours. Our kitchen layout is the same as the original kitchen, except that the space in front of the slider had no cabinetry and a kitchen table there. We got rid of the table, put floor to ceiling cabinets and bookshelves along the far wall, and added a curved overhang to the peninsula where 2 people can sit. We spend a lot of time in the backyard, so having a large clear thoroughfare to the back is good for us. We didn't want to walk around a table to get into the back yard. Maximum width for tall pantry cabinet doors?

I don't think 30 inches is too big. I have a 36 inch pantry door, which we made that size to mirror the 36 inch wide integrated fridge panel on the other side of the cabinets. The pantry door has three support panels on the backside. Symmetry was critical in this kitchen as the style is minimalist/modern, so we did not want two doors breaking up the space. Functionality-wise, I think 36 inches will be fine. It's large, for sure, but I have had two door pantries in the past and I much prefer one door. In our current configuration, if I had to a two door configuration, I'd have to close one door to put any items on the counter. With one large door (which opens against a wall), I can keep the door open and unload things on the counter without having to shuffle around the doors or shut doors. Any larger than 36 inches would certainly be too large, though.

Can you make it a pocket door so you could access all of it? We are creating a pantry from a powder room and considering a pocket door for the front because it also abuts a walk area. I'm more inclined to do a "swinging" door since mine will be a walk in but pocket could be the ticket.

We have glass sliding doors on our present uppers (in the pantry). I love them and will have them on my shelves in my new walk in pantry. I can see everything at once and it keeps the cats and their hair from the items behind the glass. Here it's not part of my main kitchen. The new walk in pantry will not have a door (couldn't fit a pocket door and a swing door would take up too much space). It will be an open doorway with the glass sliding uppers and solid doors below in an "L". You will walk towards it (on the left) when using the half bath next to the kitchen and will be able to see inside the pantry when using the bathroom. I like the glass uppers - it's more period appropriate. My glass upppers date to the 1910's. They were originally stained but somewhere along the way they were painted. My new ones will be stained.

If my pantry was in the main kitchen I would have preferred an area with a closed door so other people don't have to look at my pantry. This photo is our present pantry.

Thanks so much! bostonpam, your pantry is so incredibly neat. Our style is modern so I was thinking of sanded glass or plexiglass (that can't see through). Seeing yours gave me the option of doing half solid and half glass.
