Card Tricks Quilt

Last night I finished hand-quilting my parents' Card Tricks queen-size quilt. I started hand-piecing the blocks for it in 2009, ... has taken 5 years to complete. I echo quilted the 100 9" blocks. This will be my Christmas present for my parents this year. All that is left to do is to get my S-I-L to make me an embroidery label for the quilt. So happy it is finally finished!

Theresa, How are your eyes doing now? Better I hope. Hope you girls that had your DH's birthday parties are rested up by now. :-) Oh boy, here it is the 16th already and I haven't even had that blue star top laid out for the border stars yet! I need to get on that ASAP! Yes, I did start another top...Chiclet. Here's a picture of one.....I'm not using white for a background fabric but purple/lavender (because that's what I have), and pulling from my stack of 2 1/2" squares. I have 9 made so far and will make as many as it takes to use up the background fabric. The 3 Lotto blocks have been made and mailed to Valarie and the Stash Attack QOV was bordered and sent off to be finished in California along with the Littlest Warrior quiltlet. Have also made the center part of the Wallhanging Challenge and am stuck about a border. Hoping Spring has finally sprung for everyone. SharonG/FL Here is a link that might be useful:

Linda, congrats on finding a house and getting yours on the market. Busy times. I envy your proximity to your grands. Everyone here sounds busy. And why are all the AC units going on the fritz? Ours on our boat can't begin to keep up with this heat - and of course we have no shade. Came back to boat last evening and it was 87 in our main salon. So I've been going over to my moms house to sew in her guest room. Spent a few hours yesterday cutting and bagging up the fabrics for Carol Doak's Mariners Compass Star blocks. I've got less than half done on that. Today I'll go back there and try to find bottom on one of my bins of stuff, to find a whole cloth quilt that is already marked and ready to go. I'm going to machine quilt it for a friends baby shower. Left it to the last minute... If I get that done and still have time energy I'll get a couple of bird houses done. They are so cute. VF, what a nice vase & flower for your friend. Our house is within 2-3 weeks of being finished. I can't wait to move into my own sewing room! Then I swear I'm going to be making draperies for months. Friday I went to a workshop on crazy quilting. The project was a needlebook. I Love mine. It's the best project I think I've done in a workshop. Have lots of hand embellishment left to do, then assemble it. I used silk dupioni's in yellows oranges and reds. Marjorie

Kate, it's just lovely! I've used Carol Doak paper piecing patterns before and I really like them... I've found them easy to use and very attractive. Without even knowing it, you are the one who turned me on to paper piecing in the first place... Your main machine was in the shop and you posted something that you did with the Featherweight and I really liked it and started experimenting on my own and I totally love it now... thanks! I called Heartfelt today to get some information and they were very friendly on the phone... they have a free Sit and Sew on Mondays and one on Tuesdays that you pay 5 dollars for and it's called a "work shop"... you work on your own project, bu they are available to offer assistance... They have a monthly embroidery club and I asked if they had the designs in the format that my machine takes (because they are a Janome dealer, I didn't know if they'd have Bernina formats), and they said they do, so I may go to that if I'm off for the next one... I forgot to ask if I have to bring my own stabilizer or fabric, but hopefully, I can make it to a sit and sew before then and ask those questions in person.... I also forgot to ask if you just show up, or if you register in advance... I should really write a list of questions before I call places!

Our full size greyhound loved to "dress up" - no kidding - she was never without "her accessories". I would make bandannas & scarves for the seasons and always special ones for the holidays. She would wear cool sunglasses and hats - she preferred visors -in the summer time-- heehee. I always made her costumes for Halloween - she was the TT greeter - the kids loved it - but she loved it more. She always wore those crazy reindeer antlers for Christmas. She was such a show-off! She was the best dog in the whole world - I miss her dearly. calliope - thanks for making me remember how sweet she looked all dresses up. I definitely see the greyhound in your guy. He looks terrific in his new coat.

Thank you all very much. The last quilt I made my parents was more for my mom and had lots of pink in it. This quilt with all the blues and greens was made more with my dad in mind as I am sure he is tired of pink, pink, pink on his bed LOL.

Marsha it is stored in a Rubbermaid box with lid beside my bed and they won't get it until Christmas. Thank you all bunches for appreciating the time it took to make this quilt.

Thank you all bunches. While working on my parents' quilt and my cousin's baby quilt, I have squeezed in some time for working on my Granny Square quilt which will be queensize -- I have all the blocks cut out and kitted up in ziploc sandwhich bags, so when I have down time or just need a break from other projects I hand piece granny blocks. Right now I am working on the last 4 blocks on my cousin's baby quilt which I hope to have completed before Thanksgiving.

It's great to be able to see the finished product after following along for so long. It is beautiful and a real treasure. It will seem strange not to read about it on your weekend quilting entry.
