I Spy Packages in the mail

Well Ladies the packages finally went in the mail yesterday. Sorry it took so long. Please let me know when they arrive at there destinations.

Not a problem Max, we caught it before I sent the package. The reason I caught it was I didn't have a zip code and when I looked that up I also checked the address and found out I had one too many numbers. Your doing a fantastic job, we all appreicate it.

WANTED: Packaging & Mailing Seeds: Top 10 Methods

I've received seeds from trades in all the methods & styles mentioned above. They all appear to be successful and allow seedaholics to choose the method that works best for them. Plastic baggies - I've found what works best for me are the smaller 2" x 3" zip-envelopes, also available at Walmart if you hit it when they're in stock, 100 @ $1.00. If I see them late in the season, I buy multiple packages. I use sticky labels, also available from Walmart, that can be printed from my computer. I include botanical name, common name, cultivar name, USDA hardiness zone, height, light & moisture requirements, bloom time & color along with any extra pertinent plant or growing information. If there's room, I'll include year harvested in brackets. Before mailing, I Google the seed name and do a little research so the information on the label is current, however I sometimes wonder if that information changes as time goes by. Mailing seeds - I use bubble mailers of different sizes but usually the smaller 5" x 7" size. Bubble mailers I receive get torn apart/cut up or reused as is if they're not too travel-damaged. For single trades I'll tape the seed envelope to a piece of recycled bubble envelope and tuck it inside a standard envelope with "PLEASE DO NOT MACHINE - SEEDS" on the front in the lower left-hand corner. After 2 years of sending seeds via mail in this way, I've not heard of anyone receiving crushed seeds. When harvesting seeds over the course of the season, I set them in paper bowls or spread them on paper platters that are placed on shelf units inside the garage to dry. This also allows any crawlies that may have taken up residence inside the seedpods to depart the premises of their own free will. Once thoroughly dry, seeds are stored in small plastic salad dressing cups with clear, snap-on lids I'm able to buy from the cafeteria where I work. They last from year to year and are re-used. Generally I try to not have seeds leftover from year to year despite evidence that they remain viable for many years. This thread is a good idea and hopefully we'll hear from plenty of folks with other ideas/methods for seed preservation and sharing.

Hey!! Sounds like you are on the right track..Hardwood/Semi Hardwood cuttings nobody wants a tip cutting... wet newspaper with clear wrap..PT clear wrap.. I have started using the stuff in diapers..in a pill bottle or newspaper/PT/baggie and again..LOL that clear wrap...I don't use bubble envelopes (don't think anyone else should either)..If you are sending just a few things and you don't want them rolling around in the box.. wrap them in paper and tape them to the side or bottom of the box..stuff it with newspaper.. I have sent potted plants and ran a drywall screw thru the box into the pot to keep is stable...I'm sure others can share loads of other ways to get them there safe and healthy.. Chena

hello hello!! well I'm all done the sets matched up, the envies labled and stuffed. I got my squishy in the mail today and I am so excited over all my goodies. I have been collecting fabric to do two I spy quilts for my grandkids. There are some really exciting fabrics in my package. Thank you everyone!!!!!

Grammy I think I was probably the one you are thinking of, but that fabric is a stripe so I don't think it would work for a back. Also I bought it several years ago at my local quilt shop. I bought it mainly because it had a Basset Hound on it. I could only get a fat quarter co-ordinate and don't know where it is.

I received my squishes yesterday in the mail. What a nice to surprise to come home to after a hot day of moving my daughter into her apartment at college.

Thank You so much! I see my elderly Post Master didn't do such a good job. I'll make it right with the next swap, if that is OK with you. If it's not, I will send extra postage now. I believe it was 32 cents. I wondering if he lost a stamp in the process. He was sooo having a bad day. I think he ended up in the hosp. Just let me know!

Janice don't worry about the postage it's not a big deal. There were actually a few packages this time that were under. But it is okay, I think the post office is still trying to get things right from there price increase. So just don't worry about it.
