? about outdoor patio furniture

I've been wanting an outdoor glider bench for my back porch. Home Depot has 2 I like the look of online, but the store doesn't have them for me to see in person. These gliders don't have the traditional thick outdoor cushions like most patio furniture. Instead, the seat and back have just a thin mesh P.V.C. type fabric, (that's supposed to be fast drying) stretched over the frame. I really can't tell by the pictures if there are any horizontal slats under the seat part for extra support, and the description doesn't mention it.

Does anyone have a glider with that mesh fabric seating? I'm interested in knowing if there are no slats underneath for reinforcement, does that fabric tend to sag pretty easily, or worse yet, rip? Hopefully it won't, because I don't see how one could replace just the seating. Worse yet, I'd hate to have a heavier guest sit down and fall right through it. Can anyone with patio furniture with that outdoor mesh fabric, give me a thumbs up or down?

If it is what we have it is very nice. Easy to clean and very sturdy. We've had one set (with 2 chairs) for 3 or 4 years and got the second set (with 4 chairs) 2 years ago. No problems at all, although I do wonder how we will be able to replace the mesh when it does wear. I imagine by then there will be people that have started businesses to make repairs/replacements on them since so many have been sold lately.

lydia, do yours have any slats under the seat part for reinforcement, or just the fabric stretched across the frame? If there are slats underneath, then I could use traditional cushions if the mesh fabric rips.

The furniture looks fine to me. If it is in good condition, you can probably just buy new cushions to make the pieces match or blend better with each other. I would rearrange. Put the loveseats perpendicular to each other and arrange the chairs next to each other. The primary loveseat (facing the view) should have end tables on each side. I agree that a new rug would make a big difference. Nice porch!

Fully agree with everyone who is recommending to stay away from the Indio outdoor wood collection. Even with furniture covers and stored indoors in the offseason the paint begins to chip after less than 6 months of use. Can anyone recommend a brand and color of paint that they've used to successfully refinish their pieces? pottery barn’s touch up marker at $30 each couldn’t even cover one arm of what i need to refinish.

Mine have no slats on the back or the seat. The mesh is just pulled very tight. No sagging at all, not even with a heavy person sitting on them. Is this the type of mesh you are looking at?

I would think a glider would have some extra sort of support in the center. The supports wouldn't make it very comfortable to sit on though.

I don't think ours has any slats underneath. It's now 3 years old and is not showing any signs of wear. I like that it dries in just minutes after a rain. I hate having to bring in cushions or to wait for it to dry. We leave the table out all year with just a plastic cover during the winter and bring the chairs in to the basement. Sorry I don't have a better picture.

Thank you for the pics, lydia and mush. Yes, that's the mesh fabric I'm talking about.

lydia, I'm glad to know it seems to be holding up without sagging, even with someone a bit heavier on it. I think the glider has a support bar that divides the bench seat in half. But each half looks plenty big enough to sit two large people, so I don't think they'd be uncomfortable, since neither would have to actually sit on the center bar. That's why I was more worried about the fabric holding up, as it appears to be all that would support anyone's weight.

mush, my back porch is rather small and a decent rain can still blow under the roof and soak whatever is there. So I was hoping not to have to buy a glider with cushions that have to be hauled in every time there's a chance of rain. By the way, is your patio umbrella the 11 foot one currently being sold at Costco? If so, does it lift up easily?

Well, both your sets look nice and now I finally have something I can tell my kids I'd really love for Mother's Day!
