Oriental Quilting Designs

I recently bought Ogi, a fan pattern designed by Sheila DeRose. Her patterns look very doable and thought maybe some of you might be interested. Quilts of some of her other patterns were hanging on the wall of the quilt shop and were just stunning!

Brilliant... I'm looking for a solid material, and Forbo's Marmoleum click lock stuff is awesome. Turns out the Carpet One location down the street had their stuff on display. Beautiful. The guy at the store also recommended johnsonite.com, and while they look like they have a good variety of colors and such, they seem to just make sheet and tile products. Their parent company, Tarkett, makes some interesting stuff, but not what I'm looking for.

Welcome to the quilt forum, glad to have you. Here is a link to a great tutorial for making rag quilts. Rag quilt tutorial. I have made several and don't put the batting in the middle. I prewash the flannel at least twice (to pre-shrink) then cut into 5 inch squares and back with denim from old jeans. This makes a heavy quilt, so you may prefer the other method. I like the Fons and Porter rag scissors . I got mine at Joanns with a 40% off coupon. No matter which method you use, there will be LOTS of threads in the lint catcher of your dryer.

Well I don't have good pix yet, but am finishing turning the binding & can't wait to show the marvelous work of my friend & fellow quilter Janice E. Will get better pix in full light, but for now, look how cool. She essentially put different stitching designs in each column, I love it. Thanks for the lovely comment Larri, but actually that's Nancy's suggestion to pick a feature fabric & then choose others which coordinate to it. It's a great trick which I learned about almost 20 yrs ago, that if one chooses a multi-colored print, then one can extract out individual colors from the print & it guarantees a harmonious blending.

I thought it was interesting that in the pattern I bought, the templates are referred to as male and female. I'd never heard of using those terms in quilting before.

Hey, it says it right in the instructions! No kidding!

Template A (Large female floral print)
Template B (Coordinating dark male print)

OK....so maybe it isn't the template but the fabric they're calling male and female....?????
