What a great time you will have!!!!!! I agree-try to book a different salmon fishing trip. Will be less crowded than the cruise one too. How is he liking his new fishing boat?? What an exciting adventure with Grandma!!!!

I'm so glad you two are getting to do this. My mother took DH, DS and me on a cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale when DS was only three. He bunked with his grandma, and they had first sitting while DH and I had second sitting. It was an Italian ship. The crew made *such* a fuss over that little boy! Precious memories.

I third the suggestion of book an excursion once in port. There are always excursion companies on or near the dock.

On our last tour one excursion (boat ride around Cabo San Lucas) coast $50 per person if you booked on the ship. We decided to pass on an excursion and while walking around town a guy approached us offering the same tour for $10 per person. It was just me, my DH and the guy running the boat. He would have taken us to the next town I think if we asked. He was so easy to tour with. He would stop the boat any time I pointed my camera at something. He stopped on the way back to watch some tourist kayakers who appeared to be having trouble with a rip tide. He watched them until they were safe. Really nice guy and he didn't speak a lick of English.

While boating around, one of the $50 tour boats went by us crowded with people with little say in what they wanted to see or take photos of, if they could even see something. It was sad.

Now I know if you book on board, there is the guarantee the ship won't leave without you but if you have enough time in port and start out early enough, it's definitely worth the risk. Though I have to admit. One of our passengers was left standing on the dock in one of the ports after missing the last tender. They had to find their way to the next port by the time the ship got there and left.

Just been talking with travel agent.
Being as we are going to be in Juneau all day until 10:30 that nite, she's going to check on fishing for me, and get back tomorrow.

She's won an award, two years ago for the top Alaska travel agent and accepted it in NYC.

I did book a float trip, as a standby, in case we didn't get the ship fishing excusions, but agent said it won't be that exciting for my GS.

She suggested as an alternative, a flight and walk on the glaciers.

Oh my, if you do the helicopter to Mendenhall Glacier, I wanna go with you!

NOT at $329 per person for a two hour trip.

I'll see what she comes up with her contacts on fishing.

I'll hold on to the "wait" list for the boat fishing and if no go, then we'll do the raft trip.

I've done the whale boat, last time, and was MOST disappointed.

We have a balcony with our suite, so maybe he'll see a whale then.

And we have one whole day cruising Glacier Bay on the ship.

And the dog sledding is outrageously expensive $599 per person.

Too bad, dog sledding would be a once in a lifetime thing to try. I can't believe the price!!!
