Bought one cause they said I needed one?????

A Geek Squad USB 2.0 Flash Drive

They plugged it into my pc at Best Buy and said it was working.

Do you have one and is it useful?

I don't know if you do.
I used to use USB flash drives, but find the memory cards faster and useable in more electronic products for copying files.
I bought a SanDisk memory card because I can use it to copy pictures from my camera onto my laptop, another computer or digital picture frame.

My wood grenade also broke under normal use. It appeared to be cast metal. When I bought it, I was under the impression that it was forged steel. I could not find another wood grenade but bought a similar product from Northern Tool (bought 3 of them) and so far, the first one has not broken even though used very heavily. The wedge in the previous link looks good too but the cost is high unless it is very durable. I am going back to look again and see if it is forged metal. If so, it might be a good one.

Cori Ann, my dogs are not really well trained, just creatures of habit! (kinda like me) The have little paths worn down, so I just plant around them. lol Vap, you are so right...sometimes ya just gotta bite the bullet and go for it! What are you using it for, Glenda? I use them all the time, I copy my spreadsheets and data onto them. I used to carry all the info about my boss on one, that way I was able to copy info from any computer since I regularly use 4 of different computers. Now we use dropbox so I don't need one as desperately.

I have several and use them often. However I need data portability. I kept one with essential software for when I was servicing computers and I'd have a good browser so I wouldn't have to put up with Internet Explorer. I'd have an antivirus, malware detectors and the like. Some common upgrades too.

I back up important data onto one. Then transfer it to another computer and I then have 2 backups.

Obviously you've had no need for one so far so whether you need one now or not is hard to say. Do you move files? Share anything with others where you bring them and physically transfer the data? If not, you probably didn't need one.

I'm troubled with the way it sounds like they sold it to you. Another reason I have problems with the "Geeks". I have mixed feelings about them. They did send me a lot of business. Whenever they couldn't fix a machine they'd send it to us. But I don't like their philosophy of if it can't be fixed quickly, tell the customer it can't be fixed and they must replace it. Although certainly there's some good people there, the overall caliber of people isn't very good from my experience.

I hope they didn't overcharge you too badly (another thing for which they're known). I would suggest that if you feel you don't need one, return it. The price on them keep dropping and you get larger ones for last year's price. I think the last one I bought was about $30 for 8 gig and it wasn't a great price but wasn't bad at the time. A 1 or 2 gig should only be a few dollars.

I guess I'm not clear on the question. Is this a flash drive with the Geek Squad computer checking software on it or is it just a flash drive to use for storage and or data transfer?

DH buys alot of these thingies from Buy.com and Tiger.com. I swear they automatically come to my house via UPS at least once a week. but they are cheaper and so far they replace anything he has had problems with without a problem
