Question about US Army and US Marines

I am considering knitting a warm cardigan for a toddler whose father is in the USMC. They are moving from a warm climate to a cold climate in a couple of months, so I was thinking of next fall and winter to keep him cozy. I have some camouflage yarn in greens with a little brown, not the light brown desert mixture. Is that ok for the USMC? I just want to be sure it does not say Army to a Marine family.

No help, my dad was Army and uncle was Air Force, and I wasn't born then anyway, LOL

But I did want to say what a sweet idea! Could you make a blankie that has an iron-on transfer with a picture of the dad and child? You used to could get the iron-on stuff at Walmart or a craft store- you print it with an inkjet printer and then iron it.

I too think it's a great idea. I tried a search for usmc camouflage fatigues to get some pictures but there's a couple different ones in different ones. I know uniforms evolve over time so I'm not too sure. Maybe something here would help? Hopefully someone has a relative or friend in the Marines and can be more definitive.

"Whats wrong with your FF browser? " I have used FF for some time and really liked it. Then different things started to happen like the "New Thread", "Edit" and "Quote" buttons disappeared on one site. On Ebay, I could not page to a different page, Bottons on Photo Bucket quit working, AuctionZip would not go to date selected and other things I don't remember now. All these things work OK in IE. I posted to two different help sites plus the FF Forum and no one seemed able to help me out so I finally had to remove it and use IE. I had already removed and re-installed FF, no help, removed and re-installed Adobe, removed and re-installed my anti viruse, ran a scan, ran disk check and everything else I could think of. I can not get rid of Pop Ups in IE even though I have Pop Up Blocker set at its' highest setting which bugs me and is one reason I really liked FF. Walt Conner

Odd question about lettuce use

So far I have received each week three produce bags full of different lettuces, two kales, a head of either lettuce or a large mustard, 6 x 14 inches long. Something that is supposed to be spring garlic in a bundle of four. Double handful of small carrots. Large bunch of radishes. All excellent quality and very clean. This is the only CSA that I have found that has a delivery site within 15 miles that supplies less than what is needed for a family of four or supplies very little. Where I purchase plants is a CSA drop off for another CSA and their plan for two fits in one of those reusable grocery bags with room to spare. Also not the cleanest produce. Keeping it nice and crisp for a long time is not something I need to be concerned about as that is what I receive each week. It is finding something to do with leaf lettuce types during the week received in cooking. By the end of the spring portion if I froze what was still there at the end of the week I estimate I would have enough in my freezer for two years. The wild things here are very different. I have tried putting veggies of various types out for them to eat with no takers. Even the deer in the winter turn up their noses at it. When I used to garden I would leave some of the hardier lettuces and kale to winter over and never had any go missing.

The only reason to acidify irrigation water is if your water is very alkaline (high pH) and you are growing acid loving plants. And that does not include the vast majority of cacti, succulents and other houseplants. Since the recipes for both the 5-1-1 and the gritty mix include adding dolomitic lime to buffer pH to a neutral or slightly acidic level - what the majority of most plants prefer - I am unsure why you feel the need to acidify further. Despite ken's comments, containerized plants DO need consistent fertilization as all nutrients are continually leached out with frequent waterings. I find that the reduced watering most cacti and succs prefer defer the need for fertilization to only once a month or so during the primary growing season (and i seldom fertilize at all when they are indoors for the winter).. But I use Dyna Gro's Foliage Pro for containerized plants so no need to muck around with Epsom salts. Or vinegar in the irrigation water :-) And a thorough watering when you do will flush any salts build up.

It sounds as if your yarn mimics the 'woodland' pattern and would be just fine.

I believe all of our armed services camo uniforms reflect where they are currently serving. So we currently see a lot of the desert pattern being used.

I think you are right, Thunderboltlee. It does look like Woodland. Thanks for the information. I started knitting that sweater tonight, and it should be done in a week. Now to find some special buttons for it.
