the range often sits out away from the wall an inch or two due to the connections. it's no biggie. don't worry, it won't look bad.

mine is about 1" away because of tghe gas line.it is ainly the oven door that sticks out. my super used a flexible one so we could minimize it, at least. it doesn't look bad. though the other day i wondered about how much dust and other schmutz might find its way back there. :(

Glad - THAT would not bother me in the slightest - what you have there. My distance was quite significant - probably more like 4 inches.

So - we figured out that if we turn our electrical outlest 90 degress, it does indeed fit into a recess in the back of the range.

Is there any reason why we should not turn the outlet on its side?

Mine is flush against the wall - usually there are openings in the back of the range that the things on the wall fit into if they're in the right place - several inches is way too much.

I guess it depends on the brand, but if the gas & electric connections of a DF range aren't exact, it won't slide in all the way. Even with my best measuring, I had to raise the adjusting legs almost to the max to get my monogram range shoved in flush. Even then it protrudes 4-5 inches (counting the handle). I also learned that the prongs of the electric outlet optimally must face a certain way; DAMHIKT.

gardenwebber, Is your range a free-standing or a slide-in? The slide-ins are supposed to have a narrow ledge of countertop behind them. A free-standing range has a panel with controls that is above the burners; they generally sit farther back than the slide-ins.

If you have a slide-in, you should have either counterop material or a trim kit to cover that gap.

Our range is a freestanding with a backsplash. After further investigation, there is indeed a recess in the back that looks like it can house both connections. Like I said, if we turn the outlet on its side, that will work. Also, we could possibly raise the oven by adjusting the feet - I need to look into that.

Thank you for your help - and Casey, do you remember why it is that you shouldn't turn an outlet on its side? We have a few in the house that are on the wall that way...

And...to add to what vjrnts mentioned, if your duel fuel is a bigger appliance (ie viking, wolf, lacanche etc) pro style, it's SUPPOSED to be away from the wall, normally at least 3" for fire safety. With Lacanche I had to buy a spacer to fit behind the range flush with the counters to keep the stove and wall separate. My backsplash will tuck right tight against the spacer (we'll caulk to it). The stove is pushed up against that.

igloochic - really - I've never heard that - I have a DCS all-gas and it's flush against the wall - I have granite tiles for my back splash and don't have any problem.

The receptacle needed to be one way to aim the pigtail properly, otherwise it would bind. Just a function of proximity+orientation. It did have to be so the cord was horizontal, otherwise it hit the floor or missed the recess entirely, due to the 90* bend molded in to it. And it had to be pointing one way or the other to have enough flexure to not kink.

NOT TRUE. First, you can't make a blanket statement like this as it varies by manufacturer

Second, even those where they recommend it be away from the wall 3 inches (for instance, Bluestar does this only if you use the island Trim - if you use the regular trim, their range is designed to be installed DIRECTLY against the back wall) you can install directly against the back wall as long as you extend a non-combustible material down 6 inches below the range top.

Actually WOLF is the same - their duel fuel is made to install directly againts the wall unless you are using island style trim
