My3dogs' Fab Chairs Now Living in DD's Apt !

I have watched and admired for years as our own my3dogs refinished and upholstered and brought new life to good furniture. A few months ago I contacted her via GW and the end result---- two of her beautiful chairs are now in my DD's apartment!

Here is one of the chairs before it left my3dogs lovely home up north:

This spectacular lady researched many different modes of shipping and they ended up on a bus! They stopped at Boston, then New York, and finally were picked up in Atlanta. They looked like mummies:

These babies were so well packed and protected it took about 20 minutes to get each one out of its cocoon :-)

They were a surprise for my daughter, whose apartment is the perfect home for these chairs. Right now they are trying out different rooms (they go in all of them!). She's looking for a place to buy, and these will eventually be the host and hostess chairs at her dining table.

I am the world's worst photographer, especially with my iphone. We tried one out in the LR:

She needs a longer, higher console or bench to go under that photo of NYC where she was born.

For context, across from the photo above is a red ticking sofa (Pottery Barn) with a linen pillow very close in color to the grainsack material on the backs of the chairs:

The colors of my3dogs chairs could not have been better--- here is a chair and ottoman in her drum room... the front two pillows and throw (you can barely see it on the back of the chair) came the day we delivered the chairs, she had them woven at a Turkish store in NOLA.

Those pillows are the same feel and red color as the small pillow my3dogs made for each chair as a gift to DD:

These were a wonderful addition to DD's furniture, she is 26 and collecting slowly. Not only is the workmanship just perfect in every detail, I am thrilled to have the work of such a talented GWer whom I have come to regard as a friend.

Awww, THANK-YOU!

I told kswl that it was a thrill to have my first non-local chair sale go all the way to GA, and I thought she'd be cursing me trying to get the approx. 300 ft of bubble wrap off them to finally see the chairs.

They couldn't be more perfect in her daughter's apt, and I loved the text that kswl sent me after she sent a pic of one of the chairs to her, before they arrived. 'OMG!!!! I LOVE THAT! I GET THE PILLOW TOO RIGHT?!?!!!' She didn't know there were two at that point, and I cracked up at her reaction when she saw the little pillow I'd made for them. Now I have seen the pillows that she bought in NOLA, and see why the pillow was exciting.

This will keep me walking on air for weeks!

We had the tiniest house (the family homestead) that we moved into to be with grandma after grandpa died. So there were 5, then 6 of us in that little house. Dad added a little onto it to make the living area larger, but honestly, now I don't know how we did it. We certainly never felt cramped, although we must have been. There was always someone bustling around in the kitchen or the garden. We kids had the run of the neighborhood and township and mom and dad never worried about us as long as we were home for dinner. It seems that the whole neighborhood came to our yard to play and as cramped as we were, there was no end to the family and friends that somehow stayed overnight. I guess we just made do without comparison and judgement. Dad worked hard at his own business and tho we never wanted for anything, we weren't excessive in anything either. Homework was at the kitchen table or on the living room floor; one TV, one radio, etc. My grandfather had the telephone installed on the utility porch, because he wouldn't have it in the house. When he died, it was brought into the living room, but whenever I see people walking around with cell phones and ear bugs, and i pads, I think grandpa would be spinning around in his grave. Small spaces made for family time; we went to bed early (except on monday nights, when we went to bed after I Love Lucy) and got up early; ate a real breakfast and walked a mile to school. As small as our house was, tables were set up end to end in the living room for big family/friends holiday dinners (the kids' table in the kitchen). I've lived in a lot of houses since those childhood days and have always preferred smallish houses.

Foxes, I can't wait to see how your DDs room comes out! Our "little" girl is a 25 year old career woman in another city now, but loves to come home to visit and stay in her old room. I hope someday she will have a child who can use her furniture--- we have just the chest and coatrack in her room right now, but there are two bookcases and a set of dolls furniture all painted by the same person that are in storage waiting for someday. Our mirrors are amazingly similar! I recently went over ours with gold rub 'n buff just to brighten it up. The glazing is cloudy and watered, which stopped bothering me when they began selling new mirrors like that. Your chandelier also reminds me of ours :) and our DDs bedroom stuff in her apt is PB matin toile in red, which she picked out with no prompting from me..... I feel have Done My Duty by the girl if she voluntarily selects toile!

Well, DD just got off work and she OK'd the bronze bin pulls above, so I've just ordered them. And, she wants the aqua runner instead of the coral, so I've ordered that, too. We can decide next on antiquing or adding Rub-N-Buff to the paint. She won't let me make that decision on my own, which is ok.

kswl got the ball rolling, and Saturday a GW poster in MA received this stool that she loved when she saw it. And, I am working on 2 chairs for Chibimimi in NH! VERY exciting, although I have to the chair, etc fun around my full time job. Pooh... :-)

It amazes me that my3dogs is able to do all this creative work outside her "real" job---- she is an inspiration to everyone who wishes there were more hours in the day. And if you think the pictures are good, you should see the quality of the real thing!

Wow! Those are beautiful and perfect in your DD's apartment. What a lucky girl! And, yes, you are a good mom.

my3dogs - your work never fails to amaze me! I have a feeling your real job won't be your real job for long! Seriously, I do believe you could make a nice living doing this.

It's interesting to see what you come up with given an ugly chair and some fabric remnants.

What a grand story! The chairs are wonderful and how lovely of you to add the pillows, my3dogs. Kwsl's DD will certainly treasure the chairs all the more because of the story behind them. Smilling, no, grinning ear-to-ear here!

You,wouldn't believe how smooth and fine the wood finish looks and feels. She used chalk paint and then waxed over it... It is smooth as silk and the depth of colors and tones is really outstanding!

I am STILL grinning from ear to ear over this! I called my mother each time I got an update from kswl, and I took Friday off to go to southern Maine with Mum to (you guessed it) picked up some CL chairs! She was here in my office with me when we saw the emails with pics coming in, and it was quite a thrill. We had a wonderful lunch outside on the patio at Stonewall Kitchen's Cafe in York, ME.

Who knew that over a month ago, one of the chairs I saw and wanted was owned by an artist, who is also a cat rescuer! I was looking for his phone number online and found this article, which made the front page of the local area newspaper when it happened. Brad still has that cat named 'Banks' and 5 others. He is looking for homes for 3 of them, but potential adopters will be carefully vetted. Brad sent me home with a chair that I hadn't planned on buying as well as the one he'd been holding for me. Both were from his grandparent's home. He asked for pictures when they are done, as did the nice man in Gray, ME where I bought the two that I am doing for Chibimimi.

Lazygardens, I don't sell on Etsy, or anywhere else, other than the Mustard House in Buxton, and anyone who happens to see and want something they've seen. Pam, the owner of the Mustard House, wants me to do this antique French sofa she bought. I've looked everywhere and have not seen one like it, with those built-in arms on each end.

Researching shipping these to GA was interesting, and the rates from FedEx and UPS shocked me. Incredibly high in my opinion. Being an eBay fan, I have seen many auctions that offer Greyhound shipping at a reasonable fee, so I researched that, and it was 1/6 of the highest price, which was from UPS. The buyer does have to pick them up at a Greyhound station, but the savings were HUGE! The size of these at 44" high made them too big to go USPS, as the 'horse stool' to MA did.

Such a great story, from beginning to end! I'd enjoyed seeing how great the chairs had turned out when you originally posted them on here, my3dogs, and I just love that kwsl was then able to use them for her family. The power of the internet at its best. ;-)

I agree w/ the other posters who think my3dogs' current career could soon be her past career!

(And I learned something new, about using Greyhound as a shipping option, too. This is such a cool forum!)

I love seeing these chairs in their new home. What a great parent you are and your DD must be thrilled. As you mentioned, they could fit in well anywhere with her colors & decor.

I liked seeing these chairs pictured from a slight distance...in context with other elements in a room. Many pics (if my memory is correct) that my3dogs shared were relatively close up...and for good reason...to show beautiful fabric & wood detail. It's nice to see them from a different perspective.
