Granddaughter's prom

Hope I can remember how to do this (post a pic). My granddaughter Brianna went to her senior prom Saturday. I know she had the time of her life.

I will be seeing her and meeting her date (him for the first time) in about 10 days when I go to Atlanta. I will be there for her graduation..so proud and excited to be there.

I'm going through the same thing here, myself! DD is a high school senior and we were out shopping for her prom dress a couple of weeks ago. Not only was I floored by the prices of many of the dresses but by the styles of many as well. Skintight (and I mean very, very form fitting), and many strapless or with very lowcut bodices and/or backs! Thankfully DD wasn't looking for one like that but she did comment many times during our shopping that I was acting like a prude (LOL)! With her being a 5'7" size 3, we had a really hard time finding a decent dress at a decent price. But we finally, thankfully, found her "dream dress" at Dillards. Like many of you have already mentioned, the thought of spending close to $1000 on a prom sounds like an awful lot to me, but perhaps we just live in a part of the country where folks don't spend that much. I know that DD and her close friends won't be spending even half that. I did hear that both Albuuquerque and Santa Fe were having free prom dress events last month, which I thought was such a great and thoughtful idea. I'm wondering if any of the restaurants around here will be having specially priced, budget-friendly prom night dinners. That would be much appreciated by both kids and parents. Lynn

I mentioned in another thread that I finished restoring a Singer 301 this week. It belonged to a 96 year old lady who is in rehab for a broken ankle & moving into assisted living. She continued to sew until about 6 months ago on this 301. She is suffering from some dementia, and her daughter told me she talks about her sewing machine & what she plans to make everyday! First of all, I want to still be sewing at 96!!! Her daughter showed me some of her work -- gorgeous! She was a seamstress, did not quilt. The tablecloths and intricate lace, and rufflings, tatting, etc - all sewn on the 301. I don't even know what or how the accessories work. The machine was in excellent condition, except for the 50+ years of grime and nicotine(?) on the outside. I am assuming that's what all the yukky gold crud was --- ladies smoked and sewed - in high heels back in the day! Anyway, I am bonding with this machine today. I thought working on Virginia Bound blocks, a scrappy Bonnie Hunter strip piecing block would be the perfect project to work on while I get used to the knee lever, stitching and general nuances of my new 301. I haven't quite got the scant 1/4" consistent - got to work on that - so the Virgina Bound blocks with Miss Klara it is! Sharon~my heart goes out to Katie and her family! keeping them in my prayers. Mary~we loose electricity often. It is absolutely horrible in the winter. I know how you feel when you say your house temp was 40 - it is very scary for our pets! Glad your power is back on.

Interesting article and study discussed here. My personal observation of my vegetarian/vegan acquaintances fits this study too. Many have lots of general anxiety and other mental health issues. The real question to be addressed is do they change their diets because they are ill or does the diet have a causative effect on their mental health? My personal belief is that their pre-existing mental fragility makes them more susceptible to trying to fix things through diet and other woo methods. Awww, thanks everyone...making me cry here.

I know a few of you folks realize how young Brianna was when I first got on the internet and came to the KT.

And you're so right Lonestarlady/Lynda, time goes by way too quickly! I remember when you didn't have any grandchildren and now look!!

Haven't seen my son or the grands in about 3 yrs. and have never been to Atlanta where they now live. So looking forward to this trip.

Lan, she is really beautiful. I know how you are looking forward to seeing all of them again. When we had our 50th anniversary back in March, my Missouri family came for a week.My son,his wife and my three grandchildren and my first greatgrandson.He was already 16 months old and it was so great to be with all of them.We visit on Skype so Jayden knew who we were. Have a wonderful time.

Sandie, I know that March anniversary was so special for you, Jim and the family. Not too many chances in this life to share those special times with so many loved ones.

Brianna is beautiful, isn't she? And she has the sweetest heart and soul..so does her little sis. Can't wait to be with them again after all this time.
