online women's size mother of the groom site????

I am looking for a dress or pant suit for the mother of the groom occasion in a plus size. The wedding will be in September in Northern California, semi, semi formal. So I am thinking a glitzy pant suit or dress and light jacket.

Have any of you had good experience with a quality online site for such a purchase? The wedding will be small, outside at a camp site under the trees and the reception will be at their favorite restaurant in Big Sur.

Hi sheilajoyce....first of all, Congratulations!!!
My son got married last September at a campsite in the woods of Oregon. I searched high and low online for an outfit and it drove me crazy. I ordered 4 outfits and had to return them all. My suggestion to you would be to go to a local bridal shop. They have so much to choose from for the mothers of the bride and groom and they are so helpful.
I ended up with a gorgeous purple 3 piece pants outfit that was so comfortable. I wished I had done it sooner and saved myself alot of stress!

Congratulations. Sounds like it will be a great wedding. I agree with Declansmom about local bridal shops. They give such great personal attention. On the other hand, I know a mother of the groom who bought a beautiful dress off ebay last year!

So at long last I have an update. I did try on quite a few- and ended up with 3 finalists. I anguish over most decisions, this one included. The original one, I tried on again and didn't love it as much and also realized that while I could wear a strapless bra if I were perhaps a guest, as mother of the bride who wants to dance and go crazy, that was not an option. I spent m time at the stores, and also ordered quite a few (at the end, I was ordering dresses in 2 sizes because you never know. ( I don't know how the picture will show up but I got this dress in navy and I love it. It is understated but has some bling, is long but not sweeping the floor, very flattering on and-------has a short sleeve bolero jacket for coverage but looks good without It as well. I actually took it to a tailor today to tweak it. It covers me fine, but she will raise the straps a tad and also ensure that the bra straps are totally covered. I am very excited and cannot wait to wear it. and----it's comfy!!! Now for shoes. I know I want strappy, and am looking for super comfy but of course pretty. I think a wedge could work since it is a garden wedding......... but yay I have a dress!! Here is a link that might be useful: prettiness

Weddings have gotten out of hand just as Christmas gifts have. It has nothing to do with traditions or marriage, just commercialism promoted relentlessly by the many members of the bridal industry. Somehow the wedding day has turned from a day of sacrament---or, if you're not religious, at least it's a solemn vow before witnesses--- into a sort of reality show starring the bride. I think it is vulgar beyond compare for a girl whose working parents make less than $80k between them to expect them to spend about $15,000 on her wedding! Yes, this is a real situation and the wedding takes place in October. So why does someone like this expect to spend several thousand dollars on a dress when she needs repairs on her car? Because she's seen it on TV and thinks this is the norm? I know the girls grandmother and she is worried sick about how all these things will be paid for--- DJ, photo booth, etc. she is actually planning to use some of her student loan money for the honeymoon-- she and the groom are both students with limited hours in part time retail jobs. We have one DD and two sons and none of them is even close to marriage, but I almost dread it. I am honestly considering the "check and ladder" inducement for them to eschew a big wedding! DH and I eloped to avoid the specter of a huge wedding. We were married quietly at our college by a friend who is an Episcopal priest with a few other friends as witnesses. Both recent grads, and we went on a weekend honeymoon months later when we could both get away. Married 31 years and neither of us regrets not having a wedding.

I was quite tiny in the sixties. I used to shop at the 5-7-9 shop and be in tears because pants would still be too baggy on me. I wore 3's in pants because they were the smallest size available. I would take some of them in or buy them at Frederick's of Hollywood where they ran small. My wedding dress was a 3 that had to be taken in. Today I look at clothes on the racks and marvel at how many teeny tiny things are available. I have noticed that teens that are small today still seem to have bellies. I was tiny but had a firm athletic build. I still had curves but an utterly flat belly. Never had a small waist but had good hips that made it look like I did.

Congratulations, if that's the word. Unfortunate you had refunded the money but that's a tough one in the circumstances. I am very glad the judge saw how things were - considering the annulment, what was mob hoping to gain? What's the point of wedding pictures? I do think you need to exercise caution in similar situations so you are not admitting liability which could have nailed you in different circumstances. Not that I wouldn't be sympathetic and wanting to make right something that hadn't turned out right, but you want that to be on your terms if you choose to do so. You do need a contract but along the lines of how I suggested earlier, imho. I think offering a retake of the formal pictures with a diplomatic explanation of what you thought the cause was (makeup) rather than saying makeup artist was incompetent, say the makeup doesn't appear to have reacted well to flash photography etc. That retake would be at your expense, getting parties together, travel etc at their expense. Ultimately your disclaimer should be like the Kodak one, all care no responsibility, liability limited to equivalent amount of unexposed film. That is your bottom line, you can always offer a more generous alternative if you choose (if problem was on your end say, of course you'd want to do what you could) and of course make sure any written offers (with the aforementioned caveats) include "without prejudice" provided that term is legal where you are. I am mother of groom (5 weeks away) and also last June for my other son. Both weddings at wineries (Northern CA). I had a heck of time last year trying to find a dress that wasn't too matronly or on the flip side, too revealing. I think I visited every online site there was. I ordered several online and was not happy with any of them. This time I went to a bridal salon that had a wonderful selection and best yet the samples were not in tiny sizes. Before I went I did my research, printed out pictures to show them and happily I found a beautiful dress!

Sometimes the prices are a bit higher at salons, but if you see something you like, you can price shop other stores or online.

found a pretty champagne colored sequin top at woman within...wore it with black velvet pants...

floaty dress at lane bryant, for an outside wedding (not formal)

check out nordstroms! they have all sorts of outfit in plus size online...dil just turned me on to them! so far the things she's bought have been fine...

the worst though, were shoes! i don't do heels of any kind..but found the best little black flat at easy spirits...

See if Blair or Anthony Richards has an online catalog. they have great clothes and reasonable prices and in plus sizes.

I shopped high and low. Ordered and returned many options. Ended up with a beautiful champagne colored pantsuit from Boscovs. about $130 if I remember correctly.

Chiffon wide leg pants, the blazer had tiny little crystals scattered on it with one hidden hook closure in the front, satin camisole for underneath the jacket. I don't own a dress, and didn't want one then. It was beautiful.

I think Bridal shops are crazy over priced. Good luck, how exciting.

My friend and her mother have some nice things. My own mother is planning on getting something for her grandsons wedding.
If you see something you like, but not in your size give them a call, they are able to special order some items.

Geez, Louise. I just did this except I'm the grandmother of the bride. Nordstroms has a lot on their web site. Some are reasonable and some are ridiculous. We went to Northpark in Dallas (my poor youngest daughter) I found a skirt at Nordstroms for the rehearsal dinner, but I found what I was looking for at Dillards. We have a Dillards, but it's not as big as that one. They had plus sizes.

Good luck. I've been the MOB twice and MOG twice and it's an ordeal. It's so frustrating I get to the point I dont even care what it costs, but I thought what I got at Dillards was reasonable. Not so at Nordstroms, but it was just perfect. Good luck. Nobody hates shopping more than I do. I told my daughter I had been dreading this shopping trip, and she said she had, too. LOL Glad when it was over. Now, just stuff for the showers and luncheons--that won't be as hard. Super good luck!!!
