Celebration Gone Bad

Not much happens in our little town until last Saturday night. A family sold their 3 bedroom ranch with attached garage and according to neighbors, they decided to celebrate by shooting off fireworks that night. Their entire stash of fireworks were sitting in the garage and by some accident, the entire stash was ignited. There was a lot of popping going on and bottle rockets were shooting out the raised overhead door and scoring hits on neighbors across the street. There may have been a delay in calling 911. By the time two volunteer fire departments arrived, the garage was fully engulfed in flames and the fire was attacking tghe end of the house.

The fire was brought under control; the damage: 2 cars and garage conents gone, the front end of a truck in the driveway was burned off, asphalt drive ruined, plus extensive damage to the house. The Fire Chief placed a damage estimate at $100,000.

Technically, the house was no longer theirs. The title had been transfered to the buyer; And they lost 3 vehicles. Can you imagine what will they will say to the insurance agent? What can they say? And think of the back pedaling that might result, and I'm sure everyone will be looking for ways to shed responsibility and costs. In our town, it is illegal to set off fireworks without a permit and full protective measures. This includes using a safe zone in which to ignite a rocket.

Interestingly, local newcasts are not stating the cause of the fire. The Police have not issued a statement to that effect saying its under investigation.

This incident is humorous in a way, but very sad at the same time. A large amount of hardships and upsets in people's lives were generated that night.
