Comments (56)If you want to try your hand at making the most inexpensive, organic, and most durable ( durable=meaning breaking down the slowest, so that it lasts the longest before a rose needs to come out of the pot, root bound or approaching that state), try these simple ingredients that are readily available: 3 parts - mini pine bark mulch 2 parts - sphagnum peat moss, not Michigan peat moss, must be sphagnum peat moss 1 part - aged manure or aged compost...homemade or store bought 1 part. - average garden soil This formula is for all potted roses that are expected to remain in the container for up to 5 years. The pot should not be clay, that is unglazed terra cotta, but should be plastic or resin. Of Course, a pint sized own root rose should not go into a 15 gallon pot. Comments (0)I'm in Southern California and had my pool replastered with white plaster. After a couple of days I began noticing gray mottling and streaks in the plaster. I called my plaster contractor and both he and his plasterer came out and tested the water several times. The water was always fine. Now, six months later, the entire pool is mottled with some almost black areas and a lot of streaking. Both my contractor and plasterer agree that something went wrong, however blamed bad plaster or inbalanced water as the problem. However, the plasterer agreed to replaster the pool. So, I have a few questions: First, the pool plasterer wants to me sign something before he does the new plaster basically saying if it happens again, he's not responsible. But, aren't I, a customer of a licensed contractor, entitled to a completed job that is free from defects, whether it be materials or workmanship? Is my problem most likely caused from material defects or workmanship issues? Second, obviously I have some concern about having the same plasterer do the work since he couldn't get it right the first time. Does anyone have any ideas for what caused the problem? And, are there questions I can ask to make sure it gets done properly the second time? Third, the plasterer recommended possibly using a Pebbletec product like a Pebblefina rather than just the white plaster because these are known to have less discoloring issues and will last longer. Comments (7)Yeah, taking a closer look, it looks like the seller didn't give you very much stems to work with. All I see there are the petioles, which connect the leaves to the stems. New growth will only emerge from the stems, and you weren't given much of that to even work with. So I would ask for a refund or replacement, if at all possible.Here's a closeup of my plant's stems. They're what the roots are emerging from, as well as the petioles. Looking closer at your photo, I don't see any stems whatsoever. To me, it looks as though the seller just snipped off a couple of short growth tips and stuck them in some pots. Have you unpotted them? Do they have any roots at all? If so, then they might pull thru. Just as long as the stems, what little of them there are, are still firm and viable. Under ideal conditions, these plants just might make it. But unless you got these for a very cheap price, then they weren't worth whatever price you paid for them. My first ever Monstera was a very healthy, well-rooted plant with multiple stems and at least a dozen or so leaves, and it only cost me around seven dollars. I've seen large, two-gallon sized pots of Monsteras for sale at Home Depot for just over twelve dollars. I just took a quick glance of the selection over on Amazon and none of them seemed reasonably priced. Even if these plants didn't suffer any cold damage, I wouldn't find these cuttings acceptable. Not for those prices. Places like Home Depot or Lowe's sell large Monsteras for only $12.98. Much more bang for your buck. Get your money back and shop elsewhere. Comments (3)She lectured me that they should have waited on her to grout the tub area and now the backsplash would have to be acid etched and grout lightened and it would take time and a cost of $600. I asked if we could leave the 2 sections with different grout as the area us slightly broken up but she said no it would have to be done this way. acid etch? glass tiles? (or is that marble?) either way, bad idea. Didn't her crew realize what would happen? let me just say this about the tiling job,,,last pic, right corner. a good tiler will line up the design so that there is no break. A good tiler knows there is no way you're going to 'etch' the grout out of this mosaic. the only way to remove grout is with a hand tool or dremel and grind it out. what did it look like before this debacle? why wasn't a sample tile grouted to see if you liked it? why wasn't the designer there on site and why did you have to go to the store to get new grout? where is project manager or GC on this job? I just redid my neighbors bathroom. I was designer, project manager and GC along w/my tile guy, who is also a GC. we both collaborated before starting any task. tile layout, design, grout, color, etc. then we went to the customer and showed them exactly what it was going to look like. if they approved it, we did it. So I really don't get where your designer is coming off lecturing you. Do not pay. If you material is damaged, then she and her crew are responsible for fixing it or replacing it. Period. I would not accept, nor pay for, any damaged, etched, scratched or otherwise blemished material that was caused by their doing. you do not 'etch' grout to lighten it. never heard of such a thing. the damage was caused by her telling her crew to do that. I can't believe they did it. your tile guys are bozos. She owes you new tile and a new install. (I'd hire someone else that knows how to install a difficult water jet mosaic. cuz the guys that did yours do not)...See Moreshay
