What gutter color goes with....

I'm building a soft yellow stucco med. house. It has dark bronze windows and the roof is reddish-copper asphalt shingles. My designer thinks I should paint the facia reddish to go with the roof and do Colonial Red (dark red) or Terra Cotta (lighter faded red) gutters and downspouts.

I want to do reddish copper paint on the garage doors.

My painter thinks I should take the yellow stucco color and paint the facia that same color and do dark bronze gutters and downspouts to match the bronze clad windows.

My choice is having bronze against the yellow or having a red that really doesn't tie in all that well with the roof

but it's reddish.

Any votes for bronze? Any votes for red?

I'd post a picture if I wasn't so computer illiterate!

Do you want the downspouts to be showing prominently against the house, or do you want them to kind of disappear? If you don't mind them becoming a part of the design element, I would do the fascia in the same bronze as the gutters and downspouts. I don't see why you would want the fascia in the yellow when the gutters and downspouts are in the bronze.

Sorry, the redder colors might be a great choice, but I would have to see some pix to know on that - they don't sound like the best choice from your description.

I would personally paint the gutters to blend and disappear. But if those are your only options, then bronze on yellow.

we've been struggling with this too. It seems most people use a marble basket weave or octagon tile, but we wanted something warmer. We finally found 2 bathroom inspirations while flipping through some bathroom design books at HD. Both used either a matte or cream colored subway tile and a light beige limestone floor. They also both featured warm wood tones for the vanities. Both bathrooms were very similar and exactly what we're looking for, so we've been referring to them when making decisions. Unfortunately I can't find either bathroom online and don't have a scanner. One book is This Old House Bathrooms and the room is called "Bath With a View." Probably at your HD or Lowes. We also just got back from our tile store and we selected honed light beige yurac travertine. It is a light cream color with some brown and gray veining. I think its important if you get a polished subway tile to get a polished floor. If you get a honed floor, get a matte subway tile.

Thanks, for the ideas, Outside. Do a darker sage instead of black? Hmm yeah I could see that! The spouse was a little alarmed when I suggested black. :) Really, everything goes with the roof. It's quite neutral. The bricks aren't so neutral but not too bad as long as we don't do as the POs did and pick the ugliest one and match the paint to it. Yes, the cheap new windows installed by the PO are sort of cream colored vinyl clad (with 80s French blue trim--where's my goose in a bonnet?). In the back they are still simple aluminum framed. With blue trim. We do have a lot of stuff going on with the brick, stucco, cedar, siding...I had to tone down my landscaping materials because it was going to be just too many things fighting.

The closest BM match to Mellow Grain would be Dunmore Cream if that helps you to visualize it. Here is the reason that I wouls prefer to not live in the "Red House"-it may not apply to your environs. Our area is mostly new construction in subdivisions-most of the homes are no more than 10 years old, and our particular neighborhood didn't break ground until 2005. For resale it seems to be best to paint the home a color that blends well and fits in with the surrounding homes-the few homeowners who tried something different and then tried to sell ended up selling for less than they should have-in one case a home that the owner had painted a pretty potent blue color was listed for 6 months without an offer, then painted and relisted at a price $15k higher than the original price only to sell in less than a week. I don't really do anything to the outside of my home without some consideration as to what it might do to my resale potential even though I have no plans to move. The last two homes we bought and sold had less curb appeal when we bought them than when we sold them-we were able to buy them cheaper and sell for more. The first house I ever bought was Pink-PINK. The agent didn't want me to see it but I forced her to show it to me-we stole it and the first thing we did was paint it a creamy yellow. The neighbors all thanked us.

Thanks, I think I'll go more with a beige gutter so it disappears. I think the bronze may be too stark.

I think I'd listen to my designer over the guy contracting for the labor ; ) I can't say from the description what I would prefer, but I do love the Med. red tile roofs, and I seem to be remembering the gutters being in the red too. I would look around at pics of Mediterranean homes to see what I like. Real estate, net, library, books, mags. Actually, I'd think your designer should show you some options. Tell her/him you are unsure and would like to see some examples (pics) of different options, showing what it would look like beforehand. Not sure why you say the red doesn't really go with anything, as I thought it was blending with the roof.
