An interesting idea. I think that I would like a border but not sure what I would choose. Perhaps a inner one to match the red but not sure after that.
I like scrappy looking quilts with lots of interest.

Love how the D9P works so well for this. I think a crummy border would be good (sorry, couldn't resist). Next time how about crumb blocks for the center of the 9 patch, then the corner stones would be crumbs too.

Now Beverly, a crummy border???? But you might be right! I have all those 6 1/2" crumbs that Gwen encouraged us to make. I'll lay them out and see what it looks like. I like the idea of crumb cornerstones, too.

Your question about doing anything with the crumbs at your house gave me a giggle! All I could think of was sweeping them under the rug. (Not that I would do that of course)!

This is so creative and really modern looking too. I like your idea of making the strips that will be cut skinnier. Nice effect. Another thing to try someday...

Sharon what a fantastic quilt and I like the crummy border, giggles! I too have made a couple D9P that didn't get me real excited but you and Rosa are getting me excited to try this again.

My crumbs are just piling up at my house (lol)...I've made 24 since I've been in NC while working on my strippy quilt trying to escape the FL heat).

I keep thinking the 6 1/2 blocks are my favv, but those 9 1/2 are striking! Great job!

Thank you everyone....I haven't done anything more with this. I started looking for the 6 1/2" crumb blocks to audition for the border and got sidetracked. It was a good sidetrack though as I have decided on a couple borders on other quilts....that's half the battle.

lots2do, Your post took me back over 60 years ago to my granny's house in rural Alabama. Four little rooms, no inside plumbing, no running water, built up off the
ground, wooden floors with linoleum, but a hole over in the corner of the living room where the sweepings could go through to the ground. She also swept the front yard. @:)

Sharon, help me out here. I had to look up to see what DP9 meant. LOL. I told you I came here to learn. Anyhows, what I found says that this is a disappearing nine patch. I've looked at your quilt a long time, and I can't see a nine patch pattern in it. Can you clarify it? I'm clueless. Thanks!

You start with a nine patch. You cut your nine patch into quarters and rotate and sew it back together (see link below for a better tutorial). The center square is going to be your cornerstones. The corners of the nine patch are going to be your squares. The 4 other squares in the middle of each side will be your sashing. Most of this post is about how Rosa and Geezerfolks used this technique to make sashing and cornerstones that match, rather than a scrappy D9P as you will see in the tutorial or in most pictures if you google "disappearing nine patch." The way Geezerfolks did it is very clever because she made the sashing thinner than a normal D9P would turn out.

Calliope, Sorry about the confusion with D9P. It's AKA 9 to 4 and Tossed 9-Patch. Seems like I ran across another name for it, but can't think of it right now. The results are all in the placement of fabric, colors and the layout of choice. I've made 3 that I can think of and each one has a different layout.
