Almost Wore 'Hot Pants' Today!!!

Well, kind of......was outside using the leafblower cleaning out around my hydrangeas. I had on a pair of nylon "sport type" capri pants with a drawstring at the front of the waist. You know how you hold a leafblower kinds like Bonnie Parker did her gun??? Well, I sucked the string up inside the blower and then immediately shut it off and pulled the string out of it. It just SIZZLED it!!! LOL

Walked around the house and told Twinkie that I almost wore hot pants. He just GRINNED (God Love Him - he loves me! LOL) and then when I told him why - he just shook his head!!! LOL

Watch those leafblowers, they'll getya!!

Hey, I had that happen yesterday, YaYa, to my t-shirt. I was blowing off the deck in preperation for washing dogs, making a drying area, and slurp- it grabbed me shirt! Felt weird, too!

Hot pants. I had red ones. You???

No, if you can believe it, I never had any. Of course, ya gotta remember, by the time hotpants were really in style I was already married and a mom, probably even expecting Maven by then, too!

Now the length of my dresses - that's a whole nother story....LOL

I wear long pants and long sleeve shirts during the sun months (for protection). My dermatologist told me that I must protect from sun burn and tannning. He said that I was running risk of skin cancers even if I exposed gently. He said that for me a tan and skin damage were tightly coupled. He told me that i should apply protective lotion when I ventured out this summer. He had performed a peel on my face earlier this year to remove pre-cancerous cells and a couple of dark spots. I may have looked strange to my neighbors this summer since I wore a straw hat while mowing my lawn. I know; My attire was old style or maybe a better descriptor was no-style.

I can't find them online, but I recently bought several pairs of what Macy's advertised as 'leggings' but which are pretty close to what's being described/discussed here. They were in the regular sportswear-not activewear-department with all the other pants, ie not with the exercise clothes. Anyway, they are made of knit fabric, band waist and cut to fit snugly but extremely comfortably. They've got pockets on the back and came in both ankle length and a longer boot cut style. I bought several pairs and love them for work. I always wear a top untucked over slim fit pants anyway since I work in a generally business casual office (university advisor/admin), so they are perfect. The only problem I have is that I accidentally hemmed one pair inside out. So now they have cuffs which really isn't working for the look I'm going for LOL. Once I fix that, good to go.

Of course I had been very busy and unable to wash the pants. Well, as soon as I walked in the door today I ran a load that include my pants, several pair of white socks two tiny white washcloths and then sat down with a nice cup of tea. Then I went to take a shower. Yuck the water was brown. I live in NYC with some of the best quality water in the world and I had just drank a cup of tea made with this water and washed my favorite pants in brown water. I feel like these pants are cursed, never mind I drank that water. I live in a multi family building and the building may have turned off the water to fix a plumbing issue which usually results in brown water for less than a minute but the water is not running clear. I can't rewash the pants and I cant take a shower. When the water is clear again I will wash in cold water and hope for the best. Sorry I just needed to rant.

As a professional horticulturist, I've been wearing gardening aprons for tens of years! I started the habit while studying at my university, spending a couple of hours in the greenhouse labs, then needing to rush off to environmental law or organic chemistry classes. My gardening aprons are heavy canvas or denim with sturdy pockets. They get blasted with the hose more often than tossed in the laundry. Funny story.....my garden aprons hang from a hook at the entry of our shed, just inside the door. Early this year, a tiny Carolina wren tried to build a nest in a pocket. If one more day had gone by, I would have had to retire that apron for the spring. I emptied the pocket contents on the ground outside the door and it was quickly collected and reassembled elsewhere.

Hi Ya Ya,

If your pants had gotten too hot ... you'd have been yellin', "Ya - ya", for sure ... at high enough decibel levels to have brought Twinkie a runnin'!!

They say that there are rules governing the kind of materials that can be put into (mattresses?) - not rapidly flammable.

But the same can't be said for the materials that go into upholstering and fabric of furniture, carpets, clothing, etc. That many of them catch fire much more rapidly, burn faster and hotter, and throw off more noxious fumes, than do natural materials.

That, due to that, if we get a fire in the home ... when the smoke alarm goes off ... we have about 3 min. to get out of there. Or be done in by much more rapidly developing/moving fire ... or nasty fumes (e.g. cyanide).

Just a word to the wise.

Thanks, OJ, I knew that nylon would be a goner, fersure!

Told Twinkie that if they had ignited I would have shucked those suckers in a New York minute! LOL
