A few more fabric choices for DR (part 2)

I was out today looking at fabric again and would like to share a few more choices. I posted the first fabric shown below on my previous thread, which I will link here, but am not sure how much feedback I might get on that old thread, so am starting a new one.

Here's what I found today at Calico. Now that it's home, I feel it may be too close to the wall color. However, the green is PERFECT with the sofa and the gold color works great with the fabric on the black chair seats. The big drawback, tho, is the price. It's more than 3 X's the price of the larger check that many liked from my precious thread.

Here's another fabric I found on line. I don't know if the narrow stripe with the check is black or not. If it is, that might look nice with the black chairs. I think I might go ahead and order a large swatch of this one, if it gets 'positive reviews'. :)

FYI - The size of the checks of the favorite from the precious thread is 2". The size of the checks on the fabric from Calico as well as the fabric I found on line is 3".

Also wanted to mention that I looked at the Karastan French Check at a carpet store today and it's beautiful in person. It's still on my mind. One alternative would be to use the rug and not add any upholstered chairs.

Bac, I love the first fabric but I don't care for the second one. I can't explain why I guess it's just a visceral reaction.

Is this fabric for the seat of your beautiful painted chairs? I really do think you need to decide if you are using the carpet or not before going forward with a fabric choice.

holly-kay, thanks for you response. The fabric is for the upholstered parson's chairs I'm thinking about adding to each end of the table. The current fabric on the painted chairs is very new and will stay.

You are definitely right. I need to decide whether or not I'm going to use a rug under the table before committing to a fabric. I'm leaning toward no rug because adding the French Check would lead to changing quite a few things in the living room (which I eventually want to anyway), but who knows how long that could take.

Oh, also wanted to thank you for your response on my other fabric choice thread.

When I decided to start a little daylily garden, All American Chief was the first selection because of pictures I've seen here. That was 2 years ago. And it still is among the favorites. I remember being sent 3 slightly bigger than pencil size separate fans. But AAC is not a wimp. All 3 small single fans are now mini clumps. Wizard at Large is huge, stunning and always a good bloom. Southbound Odyssey was one of those add on purchase to make the most of the initial $10 first plant shipping thing. Frank Smith's description was so appropriate - I like the plant a lot. More and more, I see how plants change for the better as they get established. Judy Farquhar bloomed really big flowers last year, but not very impressive to me as they look weak. Now, these blooms seem so full of personality. Considering myself lucky to get Ginny Mitchell from Maryott's last year (because it got dropped this year). It's such a beauty even if it's in a shady area. Annette's Magic is a gift plant from Annette Rice. And what a beautfiul gift it is. Thank you all for your comments. Ben

I appreciate all your comments and thank you so much for taking the time from your Labor Day weekend to let me know you enjoyed my post! hostabuff.....Stargate Portal always looks just as you see in my photo(s) and has never had an ugly bloom here. It doesn't seem possible that it can be so perfect, does it? But in my personal experience, it is the perfect daylily and if pressed to name my favorite of all....well this one is numero uno. (And I have close to 500 daylilies). Not sure how it performs or holds it's color where it is hotter but here it is a healthy plant, many scapes and increases well. I can never stop looking at it and am sad when it has it's last bloom. I agree that Royal Jester is a looker, and it is a really good plant too. Sherry, I will try to remember when posting again to let you and others know which are my favorites! Stay tuned. Jean, I always enjoy your comments. You make posting worthwhile! twixanddud, I actually received Capacity for Wonder as a bonus with an order, knowing nothing about it. At first I was disappointed because I already have plenty of yellows... and then it bloomed. Now I know it's NOT just another yellow. Brad, good choice with Pinhill Claret Symphony. It is hard to get an accurate photo of it's color or to show how sturdy the scapes are. But it is a winner. Mine still has many buds left to go as we turn the calendar to September. Avedon, YES that is your Welcome Mat and I posted it for you mostly. I love it. Of course since it was planted last fall and we have such a short growing season it didn't do much this summer but that is how it is with all fall-planted ones in my zone. I have no doubt next summer I will be posting pics of a big, abundant bloomer. I think it is beautiful. (BTW I responded to you on my other post as well). Nancy, I feel the same way as you do about orange....it's not my favorite color but somehow I have a lot of orange daylilies....and I love them. VT Autumn Fires is so brilliant and well-budded that it is stunning in person especially with the late summer sun shining on it. It really does look like it's on fire! And it just laughs at the cold winters since it's hybridized in Vermont, my next-door neighbor. Maryl, NO that is not the same daylily. The one I grow, VT Autumn Fires is by Chris Darrow of Olallie Daylily Garden in Vermont. (The VT stands for Vermont). I believe it to be unregistered which is why it won't be found on the databases. All of Olallie's cultivars with the VT prefix are his or his father's creations and unregistered. I grow a lot of Olallies and many will be featured in my next post. They do have many that are registered that start with 'Olallie'. They are more on the plain side but I like their late-bloomers because they really & truly are LATE with some VERY-late. I usually go pick them up at the farm so I can wander around looking at them in person but they have a website with photos and do mail-order business. Thanks again for the interest everyone. Celeste

I like the stripe, but is it an ivory background? Since the first thing you see when looking at the wallpaper is the turquoise background, I think it would be a good idea not to make it your main color in the fabric. With the white wainscoting, and the prominence of the wallpaper, a distinct pattern only in two colors might be a good 'fit'. Hi there - I am back after some thought and more visits to the paint store. I have checked out the laminate soapstone as suggested, and although it *is* an intriguing idea, DH and I really like the Butterrum Granite pattern better. I am actually on the fence and probably could be talked into the soapstone, but DH much prefers the granite pattern. So... I think that decision is made. Now, about the DR color again... I am searching for a DR color that will look good in between the Restrained Gold in the foyer/front hall, then Baby turtle in the kitchen. I want all three colors to look nice from room to room since you will be able to see splashes of each color from the doorways. I did go look (and get the swatch) for Lincoln Cottage Brown. I also picked up "Chestnut" by Benjamin Moore. I will try to take better pictures later (I just wasted 45 min taking horrible pictures of all my swatches and they all came out very "off") In the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions? Anything I should or should not be looking for? I am thinking I want to stay away from red because red and green gets too Christmas-ey and and I am finding that certain colors turn my Restrained Gold green.

You are very welcome Bac. I think you have a very lovely dining room. The prints, the wall color, your beautiful table, and the wonderful chairs you redid. I remember now that the fabric is for Parson's chairs. I know whatever you do it will be lovely!

It's funny, but with the gold/beige color added to the green on the Calico Corners fabric it reads more "plaid" to me than buffalo check. It's probably my eyes. I like the second choice with the outline of ?black. Hate to make things complicated, but could you use buffalo check in biscuit to reupholster the living room chairs and go with cream/gold colored linen/sunbrella for the dining room? That might afllow you to use the rug you love? Can you mix buffalo check colors in adjoining rooms, (channeling kswl)?

mtn - I'm going to inquire about the next sale at Calico to see how much I might be able to save on the fabric, should I go with that one.

voila - I like your suggestions and I agree with you, now that I take a closer look at the fabric, that it does read more "plaid". I have a much darker, much busier plaid in the LR right now that I would love to change, so I must be very careful to not add in another plaid that I will want to change too soon.

I think I should be considering possible fabrics for a chair or chairs in the LR along with fabric for the dining room, so it all works together. Yikes, what have I started??

I have a bedskirt out of the Calico fabric. It was expensive, but I fell in love with it, so I splurged. I think I would get the cheaper buffalo check if it matches the seats of your chairs. If the Calico fabric matches better, I might splurge and go for it. I love your pictures on the wall! Did they come from Ballards?

LOL, holly-kay! You got that right! Scope creep! But I really do think the LR needs some brightening up.

msrose - The prints are from Ballards, but I was lucky to get them from a consignment shop a few years ago.

In the meantime, on my original thread about fabric choices, another buffalo check from Country Curtains was mentioned by cozyplace. It appears to be more of a sage green, which may work better with my sofa color. The price is between the first buffalo check and the Calico fabric. I need to see it IRL to determine if it, too, is a contender.

I'm actually having second thoughts about the Calico fabric now. I just looked at my bedskirt from a distance and I don't really see green even though I see it in your sample above. The aqua color stands out more to me.
