too many cabinets - how to fix the 'wall-o-wood' look

My kitchen is u-shaped. It's a small space (12x11) but I have a lot of cabinet and counter space. We've recently moved the cabinets above the range and fridge up and out a few inches to break up the straight line of cabinets and also accommodate the addition of a crown. We also added a new pantry and an arch/box piece above the window. Now when I walk into the kitchen, I hear a commercial voice-over announce "welcome to Cabinet City... city... city." The cabinets are oak.

I thought about replacing some of the fronts with glass panels to break up the wood look. I want to go with a frosted or textured glass panel to hide what lurks within, but I haven't seen many of those panels in pictures so I wonder if they're in syle. Should I refinish some cabinets in a different color like cream or dark walnut? What do you think?
