open space - can you have a cool lr next to a warm kitchen?

We have a wide open layout downstairs. The kitchen is right smack next to the Family Room. I've always been drawn to pale and dark blues + creams and whites together. In other words, cool colors.

But the kitchen, which is 100% visible from the family room, is most definitely warm. The cabinets are almond. The island is a red cherry. The granite has red, brown, tan and cream in it. See pic.

So, do i need to make the family room warm as well? I dream of having my cool blue family room, but I am doubtful we can do this because of the kitchen...

I think bringing blues into your family room would be lovely. Just have a unifying neutral wall color and bring some of the creamy, golden or brown colors into your family room (pillows, throws, artwork, rug).

Gold and blue are complementary colors.

Yes you can do blues, but try to crosslink the colors so that they look intentional...so bring some of the blue into the kitchen and bring some of the warm golden tones into the FR.

With only a 8' ceiling, it would be proportionately incorrect to open the entire space up without walls. Open up the sunroom to the DR and make that your new living space. Do a cased opening to the kitchen, perhaps with french doors to close it off when you don't want to see all of the mess from meal preparation. Move the DR to where the current LR is, again with french doors, and find a way to create a foyer wherever the entrance is so that you aren't dumped right in the middle of everything upon entering the home.

I have a 70s rambler that is pretty open space Living room/Dining room/Kitchen. The walls around the kitchen one has a large opening into the living room and the other has a pass through where a breakfast bar straddles the dinging room and kitchen. There is no wall separating the living room and dining room. Next to the front door there is a large window that is over the open staircase, on the west elevation. The living room has the typical large window, on the east elevation. The dining room has a french door on the same wall as the living room window. Two smaller windows one in the dining room one in the kitchen are on the north elevation. Initially I had the dining room windows dressed in a coordinating drape as the two large windows in the living room space. It just didn't feel right. Now they are all the same and that feels more complete less disjointed.

Can you use a warm toned neutral color with a cool tone neutral color?

Can someone tell me what this color white means for me then? It's supposed to be a bright white. Will it work with the crisp muslin? Sure will. DEW380 is a very pretty white. As you can see from its hue family notation it belongs to the middle of the Green-Yellow (GY) hue family. Chroma of 0.10. And that's everything you want in a clean, crisp, neutral "just white" white. It would take some diggin' to find a color that does not work with DEW380. With its low chroma it even works with other colors of white and you don't have to worry about either color of white looking dirty or dingy - again, because DEW380 has such a low chroma value of 0.10.

Yes, especially since the blue and cream room you refer to has wood furniture in a similar color as your kitchen.
Also, are the floors in your FR the same light oak as in your kitchen?

Annie what a pretty mood board! Warm and cool colors are found everywhere together in nature so I do think it can be pulled off beautifully with a little forethought!
