Post Office mail from coast to coast took too long

DH mailed a birthday box to DSs work address. He likes me to mail a family recipe birthday cake too. My family does not like frosting, so it works. Well, what was supposed to take 5 days took 11 days, and the cake molded. I will try mailing him just a cake and send it a guaranteed quicker delivery, but my experience is that paying extra is no guarantee of a quicker delivery in NYC or Brooklyn either. Certainly it does not arrive as quickly as their guarantee.

My daughter mailed us an invitation to our granddaughter's First Communion Party. She mailed it on May 12. It arrived today (May 19).

She lives 15 miles from us.

No damage on the envelope.

We will go down next weekend, and I hope that the other hibiscus will be in bloom. I also hope that I will have brugmansia blooms, if so I will post pictures again. My plumeria will probably not bloom this year, I just purchased them from Florida Colors in June. This was the first year, I did not dig them up in 12 years. they were established trees, so I was not worried. I will never make that mistake again. All you have to do is dig up the pumeria and desert rose, wrap in newspaper, and store in the garage rafters. That is what I plan to do next year.I wish I could do that with my brugmansia. They are almost all new plants, since I had to start over, I will probable need to cover all the plants if we get a freeze, something I have never had to do before. Barbra,

Here is one I didn't know about. Looks like they LOVE the high summer rainfall, and deep sandy soils of southeastern Virginia! The best Cryptomeria I've ever seen on the east coast (probably, anywhere! I've never been to JP or CN) was somewhere in Norfolk but I doubt I could ever find it again. http://bigtree.cnre.vt.edu/detail.cfm?AutofieldforPrimaryKey=660 Time for those folks to install a lightning arrester for that tree! West Coast Built In Fridges stole $2715 and I am not the only one! My parents own a small business and I am the first to support small businesses but this is not a reputable mom and pop shop. They will steal your money and not feel bad about it. They no longer have a paypal acount because paypal closed it for too many charge backs. I wish I would have read these reviews before I gave them $2715 on 1/21/14 and as of 8/11/14 no refrigerator, no refund, not even a call back or email response. They will provide excuses and put you off past the time that your credit card company will reverse the charges. If you use them (and I truly hope you do not) check with your credit card company and see how long you have to reverse the charges and have the refrigerator delivered before then. If you do not have the refrigerator, reverse the charges and do not listen to their excuses and promises of it will be delivered in just another 3 weeks, or on Monday, or whatever they will say to put you past the point where they have your money and there is nothing you can do but sue them for it back. Here is how it happened for me and after reading similar stories, I am not the only one. I have all the emails documented. I have too many calls between these that went either unanswered or to a voicemail box that is full. I would love to get together with others and have a class action lawsuit against WCBIF to get the $10's of thousands of dollars this company stole. 1/21/14: Paid via Paypal $2715 for a 36” 550 rt opening sub zero, no panels, new compressor, 1 yr sealed system warranty plus custom professional grill. 3/13: emailed Kayla on status of delivery 3/17: email from Brandee Humphrey that Kayla no longer works here and she will get back to me with delivery this week. 3/18: Brandee said she is waiting for the grill to come in. Also, an FYI that she is recovering from surgery and to forgive us for being slow. 4/2: emailed Brandee for status 4/3: Brandee said her father passed away 2 weeks ago and we are behind on orders ��" working on yours next. Had to order the cold control. 4/21: Emailed Brandee for status (no response) 5/5: Emailed that since I have not heard anything on the status of the refrigerator in over a month, I was going to call the credit card company and reverse the charges if I did not hear back from them. 5/5: Emailed and requested a refund. 5/6: called over 4 times and emailed over three times in the past 2 weeks with no response. 5/6: spoke to Candy (new office assistant) who said she would have Brandee call me back when she gets in in the afternoon. No call back ��" asked for a refund. 5/7: Candy offered a $200 creditif I didn’t charge back the credit card and they would ship on 5/19 and deliver between 5/24 and 5/29. 5/21: emailed if refrigerator had been shipped and if the delivery company will call me first before delivery. 5/21: Response was “yes they will call first.” 5/23: Called and left a message regarding shipping status. 5/27: Called and left a message again because I did not receive any call from the shipping company ��" need tracking. 5/27: Called again and left a message. 5/27: email response from Brandee Humphrey ��" the owner. The office no longer has phone staff to answer calls, please email for updates. I know I have made promises that have not been kept in the past. Unfortunately I cannot uphold the promise of delivery this week as of today. The one we we set aside for you is not good enough. I am refurbishing another for you. Please allow another 3 weeks or less for the order to be received. If not, I can understand you wanting a refund. 5/29: Emailed and asked for a 6/17 delivery of the fridge. 5/29: Emailed and asked for someone to call me since I have not heard via email or phone the status of the order. 5/29: email that Candy no longer works here. 5/30: no word on delivery. Demanded to hear back by 6/2 that the refrigerator will be delivered on 6/17 or refund my money on 6/2. 6/1: email from Larry. Yes your fridge will be shipped out before the 10th of June. Thanks for your patience. 6/2: emailed Larry back asking to let me know when it ships including the tracking and carrier info. 6/2: Larry responds: Will do. 6/12: emailed and asked for tracking 6/12: Response back is: Thank you for your patience. Let me get back to you later today. 6/13: Email saying carrier is picking up on Monday (6/16) 6/13: Emailed and asked for a delivery date since it was to be shipped out today. 6/16: Emailed and asked if the refrigerator shipped and when was the deliver date. 7/28: Called and spoke to Brandee saying we submitted a chargeback with paypal and if she would pay the paypall chargeback. Brandee said that paypal closed their account due to the number of chargebacks. She will talk to Larry and call me back within 24 hours. 8/5: Called and mailbox full 8/5: Emailed them to say that since I have not heard back that I will begin legal proceedings and also contact the BBB, place reviews on every site I can find, and flag their craigslist ads for fraud as they continue to advertise products on at least 11 sites around the country collecting money without providing the product. 8/6: Called and mailbox full 8/9: Called and left message that I am not in a position to just throw away $2700 and pleaded for them to call back and refund my money (no call back)

Nancy, thanks so much for posting for me. When I phoned we were still in shock and I'm sure I wasn't very coherent. It was a rough couple days. Linda, the antique furniture is probably a total loss. If it was on the floor - it's water damaged. I've got a call into our antique broker but haven't yet been able to reach him to discuss possible repairs (?). It's possible he's also flooded. Still, once it's been flooded - never the same and value will be severely reduced, as you know. So, we'll most likely let the insurance deal with them on our claim. :( We were bemoaning the loss of the antique pieces last night before we fell asleep. Every one had a story that meant a lot to us. Truthfully though, we have so much to worry about right now that we haven't focused on their loss - yet. The structure itself held well so we had no interior wind damage to rattle things around. That means the mulberry is okay as are all of the 18th century wine glasses and decanters. We lost a considerable number of reference books though and you know how hard those are to come by. I also lost my Yamaha Clavinova. :( Things like Dad's accordion we took with us as well as all his sheet music. I lost some genealogy. That's heartbreaking. I'm still working on the inventory list. That goodness we kept meticulous records, receipts, and have a thorough professional appraisal as an addendum to our policy. It cost a bit more in premiums but not nearly as much as the losses. Lpink, have you considered coming through CT to New London and taking the ferry over to LI, going to get your aunt/uncle, and bringing them back the same way? We have ample gas available in CT and there's been virtually no looting concerns. It's a mess here but we are up and running again and safe. The ferry is running again. And thanks so much for you thoughts. Every one means so much now. Bumblebeez - thanks so much. Please keep those best wishes coming. It's going to be a long haul, months not weeks. Chase, on behalf of all Sandy's victims thank you for your Red Cross donation. The Red Cross is doing so much for so many across the region. They are always first on the scene and last to leave. Again, thank you. FEMA seems, so far, to be on top of things. It only took 20 minutes to fill out forms, register, get assigned a representative, etc. and we've received several phone calls from FEMA already and it's only been a week today Sandy paid us a visit. We have an appointment Friday at FEMA's temporary office here in Stonington. /tricia

I don't send anything that has to be there on time through the USPS.

In the area in which I live and work, we KNOW that the mail will be late..because it goes through the regional hub, which is hugely inefficient. I once sent a Christmas package Priority Mail, guaranteed to arrive in two days, and it took TEN DAYS for it to get there!

What they don't tell you is that it will arrive at the hub in two days, and after that it's in the hands of the gods. Unless you're mailing from hub to hub, don't count on anything. UPS or FedEx are a little more expensive (but not much, can be easily tracked, and if you check the latest postal rates they may even be cheaper!

I tried to subscribe to a newspaper from the northern part of the state but it wasn't going to work. Took an average (over a year's time frame) of 7-8 days. Fastest ever was 3 days and often took 15+ days. I asked the PO why and they said it had to be that the paper didn't get the papers to the post office in time.

It took 23 days to get my W2 forms this year. I just got some other paperwork, mailed in late March. I can now do my income taxes.

I had 4 rebate checks printed at the same time, same place, assumably mailed together arrived separately, only two weeks apart. Although I'm surprised I got it. Even my cousin, who is a former postal worker, er employee doesn't receive all his mail. He blames others in the area with similar names. But I keep asking him whose responsibility it is to deliver it correctly?

I must laugh when I think that one of the post offices in town has their paychecks sent FedEx because their own paychecks get lost in the mail so often.

I don't send anything that has to be there on time via the post office either. I pay everything possible via EFT and save the postage.

At least the price increase will solve everything. Won't it?

The only thing I send via USPS is Christmas cards.
It's so unreliable and slow.

I am assuming then that you did not send it Priority Mail, as they say that is 'supposed' to be 2-3 days.

If you sent it Parcel Post, they can absolutely not predict when it may arrive (5 days?). It is subject to available room on trucks, and it is anyone's guess at how long that 'might' be if there is a lot of mail. Supposedly it is First IN, First Out, but I really have to wonder if there are employees that care enough to see that it does indeed work that way.
The best day to mail is on a Mon, to best assure it will be there by Sat and hopefully long before that.

The mail speed is so inconsistent. I had a package come from WA to IN and it arrived in just 1 day. Other things from a state or two away, oftentimes take 2-3 days but are sometimes received the next day.

I am usually amazed at how quickly USPS gets my packages to where they need to go. I once sent a swap package to CA that arrived practically overnight. Of course, once I sent one to a neighboring state and it took weeks to get there. So USPS can be fast but they aren't consistent.

Several years ago people started putting on the front of envelopes (lower right corner) mailed on------date. It was amazing how fast mail got to where it was suppose to, but now many postal employees really don't care. If you ask a clerk why a letter/package took so long, they just say it was mailed late, even though the date shows when it was mailed. But many dates are being blurred by the machine which makes it hard to read. My son mailed me a small box which took three weeks from MI (to ND) and he mailed it first class mail, but the clerk stamped it so light it was very hard to see. When I showed it to our clerk, she just said sorry, but would not say anything else. Many clerks are very defensive towards the system or other workers. Yes it is the hub, in our case Fargo, that mail gets lost, held, stolen etc. It is an ongoing problem.

My mom sent DH's birthday card in late March. He received it in late April (3 weeks after his birthday)

On Friday, May 1st, I received my April AND May issues of Cosmo magazine. The following Monday, I received my JUNE issue of Cosmo.

I used to be a big fan of USPS. Not so much any more...

I can't tell you how many of my Netflix movies were broken or damaged because they tried to stuff them in my little, tiny, apartment-sized mail box instead of leaving them on the table underneath. I finally started having them shipped to the office.

I send everything priority and it always gets there in the 2 to 3 day time frame,most of the time 2 days.

While I was vacationing in Florida this winter my digital camera battery died and I realized I left the charger at home. Best Buy wanted $70 for a battery so I asked my mom to mail me a battery I had at home (it is small and slim and could fit into an envelope easily). I was going to be at the resort for 11 more days before we went to Key West and I really wanted to take pictures in Key West.

The envelope didn't come within that time frame so I bought a kodak disposable for Key West. Luckily I had my mom put my return address on the envelope and I got it at home about a month later. P.S. Mom mailed it right away and I used the address that the concierge gave me and alerted the front desk. Oh well, I've had worse things happen. I just always had trust in the post office before!
