Love it!! We use it for much of our freezer goods (meat, cookie dough, etc) and seems to work great, much better than the ziploc freezer bags for preventing freezer burn. I think it's easy to use. I can't wait to use it more in my new huge freezer!!

Are you talking about the kind that vacuum-packs and seals? If so, I had one from Costco a few years ago. Maybe I did something wrong, but found that sometimes the juices from the food got sucked into the machine, which was a problem. Also (maybe related, it was awhile ago) the bag didn't always get totally sealed. I finally returned it to Costco, and wouldn't get another one. I'm happy with zippy freezer bags. The foodsaver was just another thing to store and a bit of a hassle to bring out and use.

We have used a food saver for years and LOVE it! My DH hunts, so when we are processing a deer, we use it for hours and hours. It is the BEST thing in the world for storing meats and veggies. You can't use it for soups due to liquids getting sucked out of it, but that's fine. I just make sure the meat or veggies I am sealing is not terribly wet and it works wonders. Food does not freezer burn nearly as fast as with zip loc bags. Here's a food storage tip for you. Store fish and shrimp in zip loc bags. put the fish in, cover with water and freeze. Fish will last for years since it is frozen in a solid block of ice. I thaw the ice in a pot of water and it's ready to use in 20 minutes or so.

I love mine. I also think the canisters are great which allow you to seal liquids. I use a canister for brown sugar which keeps it moist like a new box. My advice would be to go for the Foodsaver, cheaper brands don't work as well. I bought mine at Costco. Another great use, if you have sterling silverware, is to seal it up after you wash and dry it. Then there is no need to polish before a dinner party.

we could not live without ours. we are on our 4th one in more than 12 years or so. i don't keep up anymore, i just know that my DH tells ,me to buy another one when we wear one out.

we find that anything we put in the freezer after vacuume sealing lasts as long as we need it to. we have never had anything go bad or not be fresh after taking it out of the freezer.

i buy whole racks of steaks at sams. we slice them and vacuume seal them. when i take them out of the freezer, they are just as red as the day i put them in. they don't turn brown at all.

ccoombs-there is a newer version that does allow for wet or moist foods. it is our latest one. i bought it about 9 months to a year ago. its the best and most sohpisticated model yet. i got it at bed bath and beyond. its a stainless steel model.

We just bought our 2nd one, had the first for 15 years.

We use it a lot. Buy meat on sale, make extras of certain dishes and freeze it all.

The new ones have 2 settings now, one specifically to address the juices from certain foods. As for liquids, put them in a bowl lined with one of the food saver bags and freeze, THEN vacuum seal the bag.

Foodsaver has several, just make sure you get the best one you can afford. As you move up the line, you get better vacuum motors.

I had the same problem as bigdoglover . . . maybe I ruined it on the first day. In any case, I could never get it to work properly.

I now use one of the little cheapy plastic suction things that have their own baggies -- works fine for me.

If you do buy one of the Foodsavers, just be very careful how you deal with liquids.

One other tip for liquids- you can put a paper towel/dry sponge/napkin along the front edge, then seal the bag.

We have one and use it a lot. One thing we use it for frequently is marinating meat. Just throw some marinade in a bag with the meat and suck away! Tasty tender meat on the grill! The cansiters are great, too. But don't try to vacuum seal marshmallows in them! They get huge (which is pretty funny) and then when you open them up again they shrivel up like little marshmallow raisins! You can also get an adapter so you can use it for mason jars. We have both the wide mouth one and the smaller one and use it for storing all sorts of snacks and dry goods in our pantry. As for storing the Foodsaver itself, well they aren't exactly attractive so ours gets stored in our appliance garage because I didn't want to keep it out in the open. And if it were in a cabinet, I'd probably never use it.
