Kind of OT - Decorating room/program with FROG

I'm sorry this is kind of off topic but I really need your creativity. I have recently taken a position doing adult literacy in my hometown in the middle of nowhere. 24% of our adult population read at or below the 4th grade level! No kidding!

I want to decorate my office as well as setup a theme for the Literacy program that incorporates Frogs. I have a small collection of Frog things that I would like to incorporate. I also have a small tattoo (the only one I have) that consists of a frog with a crown holding a four leaf clover, on my ankle.

I need a slogan that incorporates the letters FROG and an icon to share the theme. The office that I have at the nonprofit agency has a window that actually leads into the lunch room that is currently covered up by cheap mini blinds. I want to take a piece of luan and paint it and have my sister (who does murals) to paint my theme and icon on it on one side that shows from the lunchroom and a scenic picture to show from my side. I hope that makes sense. I can then take the piece of luan out and with me when I setup at local fairs and such. Hope all that makes sense!

I have searched all over the internet for an icon of a frog reading a book that shows more than the top of the frogs heads sticking over the book and his feet sticking out the bottom with no avail.

Any ideas and thoughts appreciated!

Oh and BTW, the office walls are currently primered and ready for the gallon and a half of light yellow from SW leftover from my kitchen. I've got to remember the exact color!

Alicia, it sounds like a wonderful program. Is it aimed at children or adults. I went to www.google.com, and I selected the "Images" tab to search only on images. I searched for images using the phrase "frog reading" I found an image containing the entire body of a frog.

I also searched images using the phrase "frog literacy". The first image that it found is a photograph from a Frog Literacy Program in Atlanta. Perhaps you can look for more information on this program.

I watch HGTV. I liked the gardening shows, but after a while they didn't teach me anything I didn't already know. I like watching house hunters. The show where someone is looking for a house and they look at 3 houses and then the dramatic ending where they pick the one they want. Or at least that's what usually happens. I've seen episodes where the house hunters decided to keep renting. Most of the shows were obviously filmed while house prices were at or near their peak and financing was easy. I mean they have receptionists looking at $250k houses. They typically show the homeowners a few months after purchase to check up on them. They're always thrilled with their house. I'll bet many of them have now been foreclosed on. I saw one episode where the buyer was getting a more affordable option arm mortgage. The ones where you don't even have to pay the interest each month if you choose not to (Everyone pays the minimum amount each month). The unpaid interest gets added to the principal. I love the comments by newlyweds looking for their first home (and the look on the face of the agents). 'I don't like the kitchen knobs'. The agent informs them that for maybe $100 at home depot you can buy a new set of knobs. They look at the agent like she's nuts. How can she expect them to go to home depot? The buyers also look at a kitchen that doesn't have a $25k remodel job with new cherry cabinets, granite counter tops and SS appliances and say 'We would definitely have to redo the entire kitchen' even thought the kitchen is fine and could easily last another 15 years. This show is a documentary showing how we got into the financial mess we're in.

(((( Karen)))) It's been awhile since I've been here in awhile but have thought about all of you. April & May were horrible personally with lots of travel to and from hospitals. I lost my dear FIL to cancer on May 21 and my best friend to heart failure on May 27 so shortly after overcoming the horrifying thought of losing my mother earlier in the year. Needless to say , I hit the skids pretty hard with the emotional toll in a way that is very much not usually myself, just that I couldn't take so much in such a short amount of time. I felt I had done & done & done for family and friends and left nothing for myself. For a time, I simply reclused to the house and did nothing but cry. What you are going through is NORMAL , and as tears go , in time they do lessen but there's no rush to ""make yourself accomplish anything"". Your loss and pain are still very fresh and forcing yourself to do something creative will not help. If you're going to decorate, you have to do it for YOU. I lost my own dad 13 yrs ago and though I've come to accept that and 'normal' has long since returned, I LOVED my FIL. He's been a very integral and special man to me for almost 11 years. I knew he was going to pass, but I just wasn't ready. My best friend was also my neighbor and I wasn't ready to lose him either, though I knew the time would come once we learned his defibrilator wasn't keeping up with regulating his heart anymore and it was going to wear out. I put him in the hospital 2 weeks before FIL passed and he crashed to a coma the very day I was away burying FIL. To tell you how far off the skids I've been , my table is still set for Easter , minus the centerpiece which I tossed into the basement on my way out the door for the 3hr drive to visit FIL. I wasn't in the mood to see "cute" when I returned. I haven't bought any new pieces of anything since April , the big pug flag I display for each month in the LR is still easter... I just don't care and haven't felt the creative urge to do anything about it. For me to tell you to pull yourself together would not only be wrong and immoral , it would be the pot calling the kettle black. Do what YOU want to do for YOU and in time , the pain will change and you will want to pull out your fun stuff again. Students nowadays are so..I'm not sure they're really clueless btw..maybe they choose to be clueless. As not to put any effort. If somebody picks up their mess even better. They're supposedly really smart young people, ambitious and responsible enough as to pursue their education. Most time, they should be fine with figuring very basic stuff that dwelling and co-existence requires. I spent 4 years in dorms myself..individual rooms could get messy yes..but if anyone of us even would dare to not clean the kitchen after they cook and eat? I can't imagine what would happen. We had maybe 10 rooms on each floor, one kitchen one shower..so say 20 people? Other 19 would corner that one offender and make him understand in a sec. Some things do land on you with age and experience When teenager I would try to not dress weather appropriate, because most coats were ugly, hats I disliked..also wasn't considered "cool" so it's much nicer to get that virus or cold when somebody brings you tea and medicine and makes you chicken soup and whatnot while in dorms I quickly understood being sick is not what it was anymore. No one's fretting, no one has time to worry about you, they don't want to hear you coughing, and you need to get yourself to that doctor, get the prescription, go to a pharmacy while all feverish..hold your cough..and still be ready for these mid terms while at that. Even if you have many nice friends around. So I can't tell you how fast I started dressing properly for the weather after I had this experience of getting sick not as a child anymore but as somebody who lived by herself.

Not to be a crank, but will a frog motif really sell this to the adults who need the program--esp men? I understand that you have all the frog stuff, and want to use it, but think about your target audience, who might feel rather shy about their poor reading skills.

I applaud your enthusiasm and concern, but you might want to think about how your target audience will respond.

I don't think your personal tattoo is relevant to this mission, no matter how heartfelt.

ideefix I agree! However,I am kind of stuck. Personal tattoo aside, at one time the literacy program used the theme FROG as Family Reading Our Goal. There is alot of stuff there. It is a nonprofit and there isn't much money at all to work with.

To be truthful, I need tutors more so than I need clients. The clients are there but getting folks to volunteer their time to work them is another story. I had thought of targeting older retired females and starting a monthly social/training in order to bring in that type.

I appreciate your honesty and all ideas are appeciated!

Sorry to be so abrupt--I didn't realize that FROG was preexisting. (But remember the feng shui gift certificate discussion? Sometimes posters get bees in their bonnets.)

Older women who've taught kids and grandkids to read are a great resource and usually non-threatening to those who need the service. Maybe advertise at churches and/or other social orgs--do you have Eastern Star in your area?
