Mary Tyler Moore show reunion on Oprah

I've been watching the reunion of the cast from the Mary Tyler Moore show on Oprah this afternoon. It brought back such fond memories of her show. It has to be one of my all time favorites. Mr. Grant, Murray, Rhoda, Ted Baxter, Phyllis, Sue Ann (the Happy Homemaker)... What a wonderful show.

Well, in answer to your question about "is it staged". Heck yes, they had Doctors, EMT's and all kinds of emergency equipment there. Staged or not, Dang 17 minutes of holding your breath? I love the animal records. The dog with the glass of water is so cool! David Blaine requested Oprah to allow him to break a record on her show. He stated that he actually loses money every time he does one of his "events". He has to work all year to pursue his "goals". He trained vigorously for this event. He is planning more. Gayle

@gargamel -- a while ago, they would simply say "I want it to look like 'Somethings Gotta Give'". Actually, so many people teardown the overhead hanging cabinets before really thinking through where the stuff is going to go. The multi-layer floorplans of the MTM apartment bring to mind that blog in another thread, that advocates the use of multiple levels in an open space.

I often miss Oprah, but I happened to catch this one and actually sat down and watched most of it and taped it in case I got a phone call (which I did). It was great. Sniff . . . .

Georgia, Valerie, and Murry had aged very well. Does MTM have a little touch of palsey? How old do ya'll think they all are? I don't have a clue.

That was my thought I want that outfit! I like Rhoda's lime green too! But the Tomato dress was way over the top.

It came on right after I saw Mcmann's post. I don't usually watch Oprah, but I'm glad I saw it today. I think everyone looked great. Mary looked wonderful considering her health problems. Wow, so many memories.

I never watch Orca Windbag. She and most all of those daytime talk shows irritate me but when I saw the topic I looked it up (had no idea when or what channel it's even on!) and tuned it in. It was nice to see the cast together but they weren't allowed to talk much, Windbag kept interrupting to self-promote.

I always had the hots for Mary and Betty White! And a soft spot in my heart for Val Harper too. Great show, great cast. Great people. And talented too, with all the Emmys and other awards they've won over the years.

I don't know whether it was intended or not, I think it had to be, but how many people noted the question in the theme song? "How will you make it on your own? This world is awfully big, girl this time you're all alone..." I take that to mean without Dick Van Dyke to "carry" her. I remember D.V.D. being interviewed at the time, he was getting his new show and said he was kind of hoping Mary's show would be a flop so she could rejoin him on his new show. And of course the "you're gonna make it after all"
