Another furniture placement question

Trying to place the desk in the library/conservatory area. I would really like the desk to be facing out the window since the view is pretty. However, I also kind of want the desk to face the other way with the chair part in the window and the other part facing towards the door so you can see the front of the desk from the door to the room. Want the couch to stay in the room too - am debating about turning it the other way and putting it in the front of the desk almost as if the desk was a giant sofa table. Then the desk and couch would both be facing out the front window to enjoy the view but it wouldn't maximize the look of either and both are (IMHO) really pretty pieces of furniture....

The desk is limited in where it can go by the need for the library ladder to move along the floor. A built-in window seat is also being put in in the side windows so the couch can't move over there, although theoretically that seems like the most logical spot.

Thoughts--- what would you do and how would you arrange given the premise that both of these pieces of furniture (couch and desk) should stay in the room... Or would you remove the couch in order to allow for better desk placement (and, if so, where would the desk ideally go)....

The desk should really face "out". I would probably place the desk opposite the door in the bay near the ladder, with the chair in the bay. You can look out the window where the sofa is.

The sofa should be fine where it is, if the front edge of the desk doesn't intersect the space in front of the right arm of the sofa too much.

In any case, lighting the desk for nighttime use may be problematic because it will be floating and you don't want to be tripping over cords.

Houses of this design need a lot of floor outlets because of all the furniture that is floated in the rooms, and sometimes it is not clear where they need to be until there is furniture.

If your library ladder is like mine, you can keep it at a more vertical angle when not in use. Then, I would probably place it as Palimpsest suggested or, if there's room, I would use Pal's suggestion, but swap the sofa and desk positions.

Another option, if it wouldn't constrict flow into the room, might be to place the desk facing out, but at a diagonal across the corner where the two window walls come together. The sofa could then float at the same angle facing the desk with its back to the doors. You would probably want to add a sofa table or narrow bench across the back of the sofa.

Silestone is very heavy and will break if not properly supported. A DW is not designed to have any weight resting on it at all. It's designed to be pulled in and out of an alcove in your cabinetry, and this alcove is usually created by having a sink cabinet on one side and another type of cabinet on the other side. When you don't have that other cabinet on the side of the DW, your countertop doesn't have any place to be supported. That's why you order a DW end panel to go between your DW and range. It will support the weight of your countertop on that edge. Your countertop fabricator will still want to attach blocking to the rear of your wall behind your DW to support your countertop at the rear. A regular 24" cabinet will support the countertop at both sides as well as the front and rear. In a situation where the counter goes across a DW, the front remains unsupported for the 24" of space that it goes over your DW, and is a potential "weak spot" in your countertop that you should avoid adding any additional heavy weight on to. And no, Silestone is not glued to your existing countertops. Your existing countertops are removed and the 3 cm Silestone is attached directly to the top of your cabinets, and that's why it's very important to determine whether or not they are level and plumb, because the stone will have to be shimmed if it's not, and if it's substantially out of whack, sometimes large spaces can result. If you are in a market that uses 2 cm Silestone instead of the 3 cm, then a plywood subtop is used over your cabinets before installing the Silestone. Your old countertops still have to be removed, and proper support at all points has to be engineered, including a DW side panel of at least 3/4" solid wood.

I worry about if it meets my need to see in it, and the other members of the house who would need to see themself in it. The outlets really should not be near the sink, so I would worry about that.

it is not a new build but a renovation. We are bumping the back walls out to make the space bigger (you can see the dotted line in the upper part going from the french doors to the table and across to almost the cooktop - that's the existing wall and the family room side is getting bumped out about half of that (it already bumps out a little more than the kitchen). the window size i am not sure of - currently in that spot is a sliding glass door that we are replacing with windows instead so I can do whatever size I want. I think the room is approximately 19feet from window/built in wall to fireplace and about 16.5 feet from the length of the builtin areas. I think that the kitchen table can be rotated 90 degrees in the pic. the tv is above the fireplace.

Another Faucet Placement Question...

Both my DH and I are right handed and we're putting our: Faucet over the divider b/w the large and small basins (our large basin is also on the left) and slightly lower than the top of the larger basin Soap Dispenser (hand soap) in the left corner of the left (larger) basin Airswitch for GD in the right corner of the right basin Bottle of dish soap will be in the right corner as well The location of the soap dispenser is really dependent on which basin you think you'll be washing your hands in more...if it has hand soap in it. If it's dish soap, which basin will you use the dish soap in the most? If you don't think there'll be more hand or dish washing in any particular basin, then think about how you approach the sink to either wash your hands or put dish soap in a pan... E.g., Even though I'm right handed, I approach the sink with the pan in my left hand so I can adjust the faucet/water temperature/squirt soap with my right hand...so bottle of dish soap will go on the right. When I wash my hands, I put the soap in my left hand and again use my right hand to adjust the faucet/water temperature...so soap dispenser with hand soap on the left!

palimpsest the window near the ladder is getting its built-in window seat installed soon. The desk can't go there.

I do not think we will put a lamp on the desk. We have a chandelier in that room and will use that. We don't really use a desk, we have laptops and ipads. I just like to have one to store papers and stuff in and because it looks pretty.

Fun2BHere the angle of our ladder isn't adjustable. The cabinet makers made it and it stays at the length it is. Otherwise, I would do that.

I like the idea of putting the desk at a diagonal. I can move the cane chair out and see if there's room for it there.

I could also move the desk into the big bay window and put the couch along the wall where the cabinet is now that everyone agreed was too big for the space. So, couch here where cabinet is:

We'll try it that way. We need to get help moving the big baker cabinet out first- it is extremely heavy and took 4 people to put it there! we should have put furniture sliders on it or something I guess.
