Redwork Quilt Top (pics)

I couldn't wait to share this one, even though it is only a top now!

I had a lot of fun doing the redwork. I really like the red/white combo. I think my piecing could be better, but I always think that!

Hope this might inspire someone to get into redwork (or bluework, etc.)

Your quilt is adorable! Where did you get your redwork patterns? They are all cute.
I like your layout. The red and white makes a good combination. I see the red you had requested and I found.
Wanted to tell you I used some of the pink floral you sent me to make a special blanket for my granddaughter's pink hippo she sleeps with. She was so excited.

It's really lovely. Is this the quilt you are searching for the blue fabric? Try this link. You may not be able to find the exact fabric, but perhaps you can find something that will coordinate with whatever else you have in the top already and make it look like it was planned that way all along. Looks like you did a really good job. I am sure your hand quilting will be equally as wonderful. The layout is great and the colors really pop. I like hand quilting as it seems relaxing. I have been practicing on machine quilting my tops but I will usually put some hand quilting in like one block in the center. Great job! Nancy (Stitches)

Thank you everyone. The first quilt is from an old 1993 book of Eleanor Burns called "Pioneer Sampler". I did the Bl& Yellow swap and decided to see what I could do with them and my stash. The boarder is seminole patchwork which was fun to do. I don't remember the name of the second one as it has been around for awhile. As to my neighbors; I have know them for as long as they have lived there. We have been here for 57 !/2 years amd yes they are good neighbors and we will miss them terribly. Jayne

Well Linda, Thx much for explaining, guess I'm recognizing the genie of the kindred spirit of hand dyes. In my late teens I got into making batiks & hand dying. Later went on to textile school & continued w/ dying, some batik & silkscreening. You bet it's addictive! I had to give it up after leaving the home my folks owned (our property, so it didn't matter if I got dyes on my laundry room studio's concrete floor). I poured my leftover Perclyethlorene (dry cleaning fluid aka Perk, used to remove left over batik wax, down the slop sink, poured out leftover dyestuffs on the back lawn, not too eco-friendly was I). I gave up dying & batiking after moving into rented homes w/ mostly white sinks & fixtures. I fell back into textiles abt 10 years later after I found quilting, as I needed to get my hands back in fabrics again, someway, somehow. Oh, to thrill vicariously thru your beautiful works -- those colors of the last pic of yr. fabrics look great -- I like their intensity -- congratulations to you on such superb work!!

I have done Red Work and can appreciate what you have done. It is wonderful.
Someone told me that they get ideas from childrens coloring books for patterns to use...

The quilt was a pattern, with full size redwork patterns. It was in QUilter's Newsletter magazine in 2004. (If anyone is interested I can look up the issue.) I just saw it and HAD to make it.

I really didn't have a specific purpose for it when I started this quilt. I thought about using it as a gift, but I think I am going to finish it for my 16 month son. Hey, a baby can never have too many quilts, right????

Lovely! Isn't redwork fun to do! I am really enjoying the little projects I've made. One problem I'm having though is finding red fabric! You can be sure when I do find some I like I'm going to get at least a couple of yards. Now I'm looking for a red on white print for the baby quilt backing.

That is so cute. I love redwork when it's combined with patchwork. Between you and Teresa, you are starting a trend here. I took a redwork class last year and never did anything with it. Shame on me.

That is adorable!Can't wait for class to start.Hope the teacher will be showing us how to do the stitches as ,I'm ashamed to admit,I don't know how to embroider.Just never had an interest in it untill now!
