A common symptom of hypothyroidism is thinning eyebrows. Get a full panel thyroid test done (includes FT3 and FT4 with the TSH) and thyroid antibody tests too. Sometimes a person can have normal thyroid results with high antibodies. I did.

Thanks Lydia I will talk to the doctor about it. I hope there is a reversable answer to this! Something other than a medical problem.....but I need to know.

It's so funny that you posted that question because I was thinking of doing it myself!! When I turned 50 (4 years ago), all my eyebrows fell out. I am now quite accomplished at "drawing" them on and most people do not even know that I have no "real" eyebrows!!! I've been told it has something to do with your hormones and aging. So, in answer to your question, NO, you are not the only one!

Wow...am I glad to hear I'm not alone! I will be drawing my own soon...right now I am "filling in" but I haven't found a pencil that will last for long. I have a powdered one that I got from Bare esentuals last year and never used, it seems to last a little while longer. This is not fun!

Anyone know of a good long lasting eyebrow pencil or powder?

I use Lancome "Blonde" eyebrow pencil, but it depends on your hair color!

Mine didnt' fall out...I tried one of those at home waxing kits and waxed one of them completely off. I thought I was going to die. I didn't know what else to do so I waxed the other one off and penciled them in until they grew back. Needless to say I now go the beauty shop and get them done!

A few weeks ago I had my eyebrows tatooed. They look great and it was absolutely painless. They are guaranteed to last for 8 years.

Try a fine line brown Sharpie permanent ink....It will wash off but not easy. Draw little fine short lines. Give them a little curve. Because eyebrow hairs don't grow in a straight line.

I don't like tatoo eyebrows...I think they look fake.

My problem is mine are turning white...just like my hair did....But dye doesn't stay on them..And those white suckers stand out like a neon light.

My eyebrows got really thin because of my thyroid. It is mostly the outer 1/3 to 1/2. I bought the TALIKA EYEBROW LIPOCILS and the only thing it did was lighten my wallet to the tune of $38.00. I was desperate to try most anything. DO NOT BOTHER!!!. It does not work.
Now I use a powdered eyebrow makeup. I believe Maybeline makes one. Be sure to have a very stiff angled brush to apply in short strokes. It does take some practice. You can buy eyebrow stencils to help if you can't get it right. Be sure to use an eyebrow gel over the top of the powder. This seems to set the powder. Be careful about rubbing your eyes. Sometimes I have slipped and taken out my eyebrow. LOL.
I thought about tatoos and other than the pain factor, I have found that you can give yourself a mini eyelift with the eyebrow powder, by placing the eyebrows a little above their normal spot. Hey, I need all the lifting I can get. Good Luck.

Patti-What a good idea! My eyebrows have gotten so thin in the last few years.May have been a thyroid thing in the beginning. I took meds for thyroid for years but the last time it was checked (about 4 years ago) my doctor didn't think I needed them.Mine are turning white too and I have the same problem you do with those and tend to pluck the really unruly ones.Maybe that's the problem!LOL I just bought some fine line markers in all colors so I am definitely going to try that.I hope I can keep my hand steady enough to get them done without an "oops"!LOL

Gee, I thought it was just me! I have to fill mine in each morning with an eyebrow pencil. I still have them but they are much thinner and not as dark anymore. When I was a teenager I had the opposite problem. They were so dark and full. Too bushy! You just can't win!

The way mine are going I won't have ANY before too long! Lauriemi I do have some powdered one now and the stiff angled brush. It has a waxy gel with it, right now it's the only thing that stays for any length of time. Sounds weird but sometimes I have to give it a little spray of hairspray to make it last longer...LOL! I have been trying lot's of things lately! I can control the brush and powder better than a pencil. I just never thought I'd have to worry about this :O(

yeah i have been battling thinning brows much to my dismay at 40 :-( i actually get compliments on my brows LOL who notices such things lol?! not me! but i do notice how hard it's been to grow mine in a bit thicker. as soon as i get mine in a new fashionable shape the new shape changes and it's taken forever to grow in thicker so they appear fuller but i'm getting there.

i use bare escentuals brow powder and actually custom mixed my own color, adjusting their strawberry blond lighter. i use a clear brow gel, cover girl i think is the brand, to hold brows in place and i can sway the thicker spots over the thinning parts LOL. i love the powder for color and it's thickening effects thou ~ liz

I'm not necessarily losing them Vikki, but mine are growing in all wiry and goofy. Driving me nuts! I feel like Andy Rooney! Ugh! I'm having, for the first time in my life, to use a pencil to outline and define them. Not fun! I hope you find a solution to your troubles and share it with us when you do.

LOL Summer...what i have left are growing like that too! I thought of Andy Rooney too when I took a closer look at what's going on with the ones that are left! LOL.....

The brow powder I use is bare escentuals with the wax on the side. It's kind of dark though so I think I'll order a lighter shade to see if it looks better.

I hope my eyelashes stay put....can't imagine wearing false ones for the rest of my life!

Mine are not thinning but rather than buy eyebrow pencils I just use eyeshadow using a small sponge brush, works great and it is always on hand.

Yup happens to me as well.Then overnight i get this real long coarse one that tries to reach my nose.LOL uhuh,just like Andy.I just use the maybelline eye pencil and sometimes if i'm going someplace special i use the eyeshadow.

I thought mine was just because I plucked them so much when I was younger. They are pretty sparse and one eyebrow has some that insist on sticking straight up, even after I use an eyebrow wax on them. I'm keeping in mind some of the suggestions here.

You're not the only one - you have some pretty 'hot' company - Pamela Anderson. She doesn't seem to have any eyebrows but no one ever looks up that high. So if you can't fix your eyebrows, some DDD implants might be the solution!

LOL @ the implants....I could use a nice lift! :O) I did read online that they could get sparse if you have over plucked them, but I know I didn't. Mine used to be pretty consistant and really never needed too much plucking when I was younger. If they did I never noticed!! But now that they are GONE I notice!! I think I'll stay away from the markers too....that could be a train wreck for sure! what a scary site that would be! I have bangs that I cover my "baldness" with now, but heaven forbid the hairdresser ever cuts them too short!
