Try letting vinegar sit in it overnight. This trick has saved my pots many times.

Cleaning Abused Cookware (RevereWare)

If you've burned something on the inside of the pan, here is what to do: Fill the pot or pan with some water and then add a generous amount of automatic dishwasher detergent, and some vinegar. Bring it to a boil, and let it boil for a while, perhaps 15 minutes to a half of an hour. Poke at the burned on crud to see if it has become loose to know when you are done. When it is done, it will quite literally simply slide right off of the pan.

I just scrub mine with soap pads. I bought a lot of it, at various times, all used from Goodwill. I used Barkeepers Friend to clean the bottoms. You might sprinkle some of that in pot before scrubbing it. Rinse it out with very hot water and sprinkle in the Barkeepers and then scrub it with the soap pad.

The dishwasher detergent works wonders. Don't ask me how I know.

A tablespoon of electric dishwasher detergent and hot water. Soak it. Scrub it. If any burned gunk remains, repeat. Sometimes it takes an overnight soak, and other times, an hour does it.

I am happy to find out that other people are still using Revere Ware! My set is 43 years old. I haven't gotten stuff burned on much, but when I did, I just let it soak. Love the post from their website. I didn't know that Revere Ware was still being made. (And today I priced Calphalon at BBB -- YOW! And then i looked at the copper bottom Revere Ware on Amazon -- YOW!))

I have used the hot water and dishwasher detergent and it does work. It does require patience. :)

I still have a set of 'copper core' Revere Ware from our wedding (1964). It shines up well with Bon Ami cleanser.

I haven't used it much since we bought our first Corning cooktop (1980's). The cooktop came with a set of flat-bottom Corning glass cookware, which I'm still using on the cooktop in this house (new 2001). I use Bon Ami on these too.

I have some too and it is the only pieces that have survived over the years. I had a whole set and don't know what happened to two other pieces...probably got rid of them for"better pieces...little did I realize...

I use the dishwasher stuff too and clean the bottom up the same way ...also use a little lemon juice or vinegar..

I often just bring baking soda and water to a boil and it will lift the burnt material.

Fill the pot with water and cheap "sudsy" ammonia, cover and let it sit overnight or longer. When you open the lid, stand back, the fumes are awful. But you will be able to scrub off the burned stuff easily, with Brillo or SOS.

I used to buy it for about $2 apiece (pot and lid) at Goodwill. I bought everything but the skillets, since I used cast iron skillets. I just couldn't pass it up. I ended up with three sets. I gave one to my daughter when she moved into her first apartment. She later gave it back to me, when she and her boyfriend bought "something new and better". One day I was going to town and about three miles from here, I saw my neighbor on horseback and she frantically flagged me down. She said she thought she had forgotten and left some pots on the stove, so she tied up her horse and I drove her home. The stove was on low, but the pots she was cooking in were burned black, but at least she didn't catch her house on fire. I watched as she threw the ruined pots over the side of her deck....she lived in a beach house. I was thinking, "What crummy pots." They were those teflon lined things. That evening when my husband came home, I got him to take her a full set of the Revereware. It was several small to large pots, all with lids and a big pot (dutch oven??), anyway, she was so thrilled to have them and couldn't believe I was giving them away. I was happy to find a home for them....and I still had a set, plus another set of Farberware pots, which are good and have heavy bottoms, but not copper bottoms.

Easiest solution, put 3 tablespoons of baking soda in the pot and fill the pot about 2 inches of water, boil for ten minutes and then let it just sit till it cools down and you can use a spatula, I used a putty knife to lift it. The baking soda lifts the burned pieces so well. Sometimes you need to do two applications.

I'm still using 45 y.o. wedding Revere Ware also. I usually sprinkle baking soda over the bottom of the pan, add a little water to make a paste and let it sit. The next morning it's easy to clean.

I bought myself a set of Revere Ware when I graduated college and got my first apartment in 1974. Yep, nearly 40 years. As I remember the whole set cost $29.95. I'm still using it. Glad to know others still have theirs. My Mom had a complete set. Unfortunately, my (now dead) brother sold or threw out everything.

I boil lots of cream of tartar with water for awhile, then let sit for several hours. It usually works great.

I bought my original Revereware with Green Stamps when I was getting married in 1965. This was the copper core modern looking stainless set. Years later, we bought a little set of Revereware copper bottom pans for a vacation home. I still use them both, but the copper clad in stainless set looks the best from all the years of wear.
