Beadboard backsplash with ORB Tiles?

OK - here's my idea of the morning:

I'm thinking about going with a beadboard backsplash (probably ceramic for durability...but that's not what's important to me right now.) I want to add something to the backsplash behind my range - a little something to standout.

I've been working all morning (with computer) putting together a "picture" of what I want. I'm curious if there is anything out there where someone has actually done what I'm thinking about. Now I'm not assuming I can find exactly what I'm looking for (beige beadboard backsplash with a 6" x 30" inset - five 6" ORB tiles in a row, the middle tile with a design, the other 5 plain - centered between the range and microwave.) The picture I "put together" with catalog photos of the tiles and beadboard looks pretty good, but I'm wondering if I can actually see a picture of it in a real kitchen (or at least something close to what I'm looking for.) Maybe a beadboard backsplash with any sort of picture/tiles/whatever in it? I did try to "Google" but I guess I'm not coming up with the right words.

I don't know how to get my picture of what I want from my Word document into this message or into photobucket, so I can't post a picture of what I mean...

Hi Susie,
I don't have any ideas about the backsplash idea, but you could try using PowerPoint instead of Word to assemble your images. You can save a PowerPoint slide as either .JPG or .PNG and add it to Photobucket.

Thanks for the idea Dreamweaver!! I didn't use PowerPoint, but I did "save" my word document to my iPhoto (yes - I'm a Mac user), and then I was able to upload to Photobucket. Here are the 2 pictures I worked on:

Now I realize this doesn't look very pretty here. I'm sure scale is way off; neither the beadboard nor the tile are the correct color; obviously when I was playing with copying and pasting pictures I didn't do a great job of getting the tiles lined up correctly. This is just sort of a "rough draft" of what I'm envisioning behind my range.

Now this one has the correct color on the tile - it's the ORB, and that's a picture of my pendant (I actually have 5 of them) in the ORB.

I think what I'm trying to do is pick-up and play-up the dark brown in my floor. This picture has my definite 2 cabinet colors and my definite floor color. The granite is still being "worked on" (we looked at more this weekend.) Whatever we ultimately go with will be very, very similar to this picture.

One of the issues I have with all of this is the matching of my backsplash to my granite. Because I think all granite (even the ones that I'm looking at with no real "swirls" or movement) STILL has a pattern...and that means that I have to be extremely careful with my backsplash. I just don't like the look of granite with a backsplash that has any real pattern of its own. I think the beadboard will accomplish this for me, and also give me the simple country/cottage look I'm going for. I'm hoping that adding the ORB tiles behind my range can give it a little something special without making it too busy. Make sense? Again, I'm trying to imagine what actual backsplash would like "in real life." Any thoughts? Thanks - SQ

Thanks for the advice, all! We're installing "real" beadboard on the eat-in half of the kitchen, so I think the eye will more readily accept the "fake" backsplash. farmhousebound, I would love some of your scraps, but I can't figure out how to PM you! I clicked on your screen name and your "page".

Hopefully you can see the last attachment now. "But I wonder why you're using tile? Why not trim out the window the same way you would any other window?" There was some concern that we needed the area immediately behind the cooktop to be more fire resistant than standard beadboard. If it does need to be tile, I've also thought about doing some white subways as filler between the opening and the textural tile frame to bring the framework out to the width of the cooktop. So am I just thinking like a crazy person here? These ideas always make sense in my head, but sometimes when I get them out of my head and on to this forum...well, I'm not so sure. ??

OK, what do you mean by ORB? That is so throwing me off - an "orb" is a sphere, but perhaps it's a tile name? Very confused - why would your light be inside a tile? Or is that the name of the green color?

Well, if what you want is a white vertical tile backsplash with a decorative accent strip above the range and then the white vertical above that, yes that works. Yes, green and brown accents tiles will look good because your cabinets are green.

Why don't you go to the tile store with a cabinet door, layout the tile as you want it and see if it works?

Oh, based on your colors I'd go with a warm white or cream for the vertical beadboard tile, not a cold stark white.

natschultz - Sorry...the ORB is an abbreviation for "oil rubbed bronze." I didn't realize that the first time I saw it, but it seems to be what everyone here on GW uses, so I went with it!! It's the metallic brown color of my pendants, and that's why I thought I would try to find some tiles to bring it out more.

I will definitely go to the tile store to take a look (I actually tried yesterday but everywhere was closing early because of the Holiday). I was hoping to see a picture of an actual kitchen where something like this had been done. I've said it a bunch of times, but I'm a very visual person, but unfortunately I'm also someone who can't really imagine how something might look when all is said and done.

I'm definitely not going with a stark white on the beadboard...it will be creamy or beige or something...
