if you use boards instead of a sheet, make sure to paint them before you install them, at least one coat. You can expect a lot more "movement" with individual boards, and you could have some tiny gaps develop as the wood shrinks during dryer seasons (winter - if you heat your home). My back wall cabinet doors are t&g planks, and I'm amazed at how much they have shrunk this winter, like maybe 3/16th inch over a 15" wide door (I think that's about 5 boards). This is also the number one reason I won't buy pre-assembled unfinished doors - I hate those small unfinished lines that show up as the wood shrinks. It's bad enough I have that on all my 6 panel wood doors during the winter months. Ok - so maybe no one notices them but me . . . it still drives me nuts.

Mayflowers - Wow. Good to know. Thank you! I'll look for those photos showing the bb to the ceiling, but I don't think I want to do that. For the island, that's something I've thought about for a long time too. The toe kick area is 4-1/2" and the current base is 3"something. I couldn't find trim that size. I don't know how to finish that area off. " I might even look into framing the sides and backs with the same frame as around your door style to make it look more finished off." I've love to do that, but don't know how I'd get it to match. The easy way, I thought, was add the same bb that will be on the splash. I agree about the corbels and am going to change them to something wood and simple. Maybe something like this. It looks really nice! Since mine will be paneling, I'm not sure what I'll do to finish off the side/edges. Maybe some type of chair moulding. Geez, I really need to get a plan together. So what's the right way to run the bb behind the refrigerator? Mine is in the middle of the cabinet run with cabinets & counter on the other side. Do you run the bb down past the counter and keep going with the trim the whole way across? Stop the bb at the counter and keep going with the trim? Stop the trim on each side leaving no trim in the space behind the fridge? I know we're not really going to see anything back there, but how should it be done? I am removing the microwave and running the bb to the top before the new one comes. Pattycakes - I've used the bb wallpaper in my laundry room on the insides of the cabinets and loved it. I went to Anthropologie today to look at some of those little accessories (jars, sugar bowl, etc) in yellow and aqua and brought the blue bird fabric. Most of them worked well but some of them were too green. It's a pretty blue. I don't think I'll do any other fabrics with turquoise- just if I find a good blue like the birds. It's sooo cute. I love it! My mom loves it too and agrees these work better than the original yellow/black/grey ones. Other ones I showed her she said were too french/formal. She has a good eye for decorating : ) The little bird fabric might be busy for the 6' window but that's why I thought maybe for the lights and then white with a bit of yellow (maybe the pom poms) for the window. I get the dandelions tomorrow (fabric) in the turquoise and girly blue. I think the print is too large though compared to those cute little birds. Maybe in the DR though if I do pillows. We'll see! I liked the tile even more today. They gave me 4 to take home woo-hoo!

I know Waterworks has beadboard tile because I'm considering that myself. They have a smaller/closer bead and one farther apart. Just took this pic on Tuesday. I think these were 9" tall. My mother in law had the 4 or 5" backsplash of her countertop material and then did painted beadboard years ago and it still looks great. Her cooktop is on a peninsula though so there aren't those splatters but I considered doing that as well. For some reason I get the counters super dirty but I'm not really dirty when it comes to the backsplash, I have no idea what my secret is, lol, my old backsplash hardly ever got dirty. I wouldn't hesitate to do the painted beadboard on the backsplash but I only like that look mixed with the countertop short backsplash.
